Kalaignar pens script on Hindu saint Ramanujar

Kalaignar Karunanidhi, one of the architects of the Dravidian movement, is scripting a TV serial on Hindu saint Ramanujar. The serial, which is being produced by Kutty Padmini, will tell the life story of the Vaishnavite acharya and his contribution to Hindu religion.

Padmini reveals she was surprised when Karunanidhi himself asked her if she could make a show on Ramanujar's life. She had told him it was her dream project but might clash with his ideals. "But he reassured us by saying that even rationalist-poet Bharathidasan has spoken highly of the saint. He also told us that he had written the foreword to a book on Ramanujar a few years ago," she reveals.

it is understandable that MK can and will pen on ramanujar. it may be good to remember that R was a revolutionary, and that he has gone on to a hill and shouted the gayatri (?) which till then was a 'secret' of the smarthas (!).

that he also converted NB to the B fold is another truth.

so, in the context, of even today, R is a revolutionary. that today's vaishnavas (poonal or otherwise) would do no such thing, is simply another matter for discussion. this is what i think.
 
Remember He played "Aariya Koothu" in his Parasakthi which was his launching pad to success! He knows this more than anybody - Nai Vitha kaasu Kolaikkathu! - Kaaseythan Kadvulada! and is not for love for revolutionary Kollgai!

Dear sri, .
You should have stopped with your 2nd sentence...'is another truth'. Your last sentence is unwarranted. If that is simply an another matter, you are free to start a thread on it. Dont drag vaishnavas(poonool or otherwise) in this matter.
 
Perhaps mk has written the foreword for the verse book on ramanuja by vali. And influenced by it.
Or kadaisi kalathile sankara sankara or narayana narayana.

I think that is what prompted him to pen about Ramanuja.ஆனாலும் நாம் நல்லதையே நினைப்போம்
 
Financial windfall for the documentary is assured as sun tv will pay a huge sum for world rights, and kalaignar tv will air it.

Srirangam constituency is in JJ's pocket; MK perhaps hopes for sriperumpudur.

After that nothing of their so-called Suya Mariyadai worked @ more intellectual youngster's generation started ru;ing T.N & M.K "s own family have fought to themselves & he has experienced untold misery, when his son Alagiri visited him on some Morning & challenged his Father that Stalin will surely Die soon ?
What else one need to vouch for his Mental Agony ?
It was high time , He has changed now Meaning BETTER Than Never
He is a proven Brahmin Hater even to day He is a Superstecious Guy None of his children are atheists , on contrary visit Temples get things done by Brahmins, & what not ? Let us resist from Glorifying him , because he is bound to show his colors any time. It will have no taker All would LAUGH at him including his own/ old living Colleagues.

This is new. He climbed atop the temple tower and shouted out the powerful mantra "Om Namo NArAyaNa" for the benefit of humankind irrespective of caste etc. is what Sri Vaishavas' literature says. No wonder Sri Vagmiji prefers smArthAs not to exhibit their half baked knowledge in this forum.

The truth, really? When Sri Nara another knowledgable person made his postings, seriously questioning the "truth", you were enthusiastically marking your 'Likes" to his posts :) Unfortunately the "Likes" feature is disabled.... so I cant show one such specimen "like" of yours to his post.

How can they? They neither have **enlightenment"" nor passport/visa/green card/citizen ship to USA or Canada... the mandatory pre-requisites per yourselves.
 
MK is a hardcore atheist only for Hindus..Not for Christians and Muslims..For them he is ready to put on the cross of the Christian or the topi of the Muslim

As usual we can expect some controversial stuff in this serial (anti B for sure)..He is a hard core anti B & age has not mellowed this trait.

But for Tamil rasikas it might be a treat!

Dear Kunjuppuji,

Again misconceptions and ignorance. I will come to MK later.

If you mean Ramanuja by R:

Who told you Ramanuja went up a hill to shout "gayatri"? from a hilltop one shouts, no one on the plains will hear it. LOL.

What was the secret known only to smarthas till then? Gayatri?

To give the bare facts:

Ramanuja went up the Tower (Gopuram) at the Thirukkoshtiyur temple and called out all believers and chanted loudly the Thiru manthiram. The Thiru manthiram is not gayatri which was known only to smarthas(?). smarthas never came in the picture in that episode. Ramanuja's Acharya gave the upadesam of Thiru manthiram (upadesam includes the deepest meanings of the manthiram) and told Ramanuja not to teach it to uninterested persons as that would have trivialised the Thiru manthiram itself. Ramanuja obeyed his Acharyan and called out those interested people from the tower because he found the meaning of the Thiru manthiram was such that it should reach the maximum number of interested people-not people who are indifferent.

Even much (centuries) before Ramanuja, Periyazhwar had called out people and asked them to come and partake in the worship of Narayana by chanting the Thiru manthiram. He said,

ஏடு நிலத்திலிடுவதன் முன்னம் வந்து எங்கள் குழாம் புகுந்து
கூடு மனமுடையீர்கள் வரம்பொழி வந்து ஒல்லைக்கூடுமினோ
நாடும் நகரமும் நன்கறிய நமோ நாராயணாய வென்று
பாடுமனமுடைப் பத்தருள்ளீர் வந்து பல்லாண்டு கூறுமினே.

சுருக்கமான பொருள்: அதிகாலையிலெழுந்து வித்தியாசம் ஏதுமின்றி எங்கள் குழுவோடு வந்து சேர்ந்திடும் நல்லமனமுடையவர்களே! உலகெல்லாம் அறிய நமோ நாராயணாய என்று (திருமந்திரத்தை) பாடி மகிழும் பக்தர்களே, எங்களோடு சேர்ந்து இறைவனுக்குப் பல்லாண்டு பாடுங்கள்.

This is exactly what Ramanuja did on that day. There was no Gayatri in the picture and no smarthas who knew some exclusive secret.

Ramanuja brought NBs and Bs to Sri Vaishnavam fold. Hindu dharma is beyond the political fruits that “conversion” gives. Period.

If Ramanuja is considered a revolutionary it is perfectly ok as long as the word "Revolutionary" does not become a dirty word by interpretation. LOL.

Vaishnavas do that (accepting people into their fold irrespective of caste, creed, colour or any other background) even today. Anyone-anyone and every one irrespective of caste or creed- can become a vaishnava by approaching a Sri Vaishnava Acharya and requesting for the pancha samskara to be performed for him and the Acharyan never will say no. Try that-that is if you want to really subscribe to vaishnava philosophy and become a vaishnava.

MK thinks the market is ripe for receiving the Ramanuja story with a heady mix of revolutionary masala and being a good businessman he is scripting the serial. LOL.

The cuckoo in the tree outside my bedroom says MK is planning his next serial also. Having doled out the Ramanuja masala he is planning to dole out the Gunaheena (read Shivpuran to know about this character-something similar to Ajamila) masala. We can expect that to be more juicy because the story of Gunaheena gives enough scope for that. Before I could ask the cuckoo as to whether the evergreen heroine Khushboo has a role in the serial it flew away. LOL.

Smarthas involvement for the growth of Hinduism is very high. Ramanujar, a born Vadama Iyer, was a perfect example.

Human tendency is thinking differently. Ramanujar was not an exception. Though his teacher was an Advaithe, he thought differently and preached. So many Bs hailed from very orthodox families became atheists and spoke against their own communities. It is not a new thing. Further, Ramanujar has not lived thousands and thousands of years. Hence, we don't know whether he accepted his decision or regretted it.

But the fact that he belonged to Vadama Sect cannot be denied.

If it is argued that Indian Christians and Muslims are one way or the other Hindus, then the same yardstick can be applied to Ramanujar thasars also i.e. Namam Tharitha Vadamas.

called as KEETHUNAAMAKARA SMARTHAS.....WE VADAMAS WITH NAAMAM....
