How gloated the ego of the old time 'Nambudari Brahmins' must be to deny the funeral rights of the mother of SAINT Adi Sankara!!

Mother’s Funeral Rites

Sankara received news that his mother was seriously ailing. He left his disciples and proceeded to Kaladi alone. His mother was then bedridden. Sankara touched her feet in reverence. He praised Lord Hari. Hari’s messengers came. Sankara's mother gave up her physical body and went along with those messengers to the abode of Hari.

Sankara encountered serious difficulties in performing the funeral rites of his mother. Usually, Sannyasins do not perform any of the rites or ceremonies which are enjoined on the householders. The Nambudiri Brahmins were all against Sankara. Sankara's relatives also did not help him. They did not come forward to assist him even in carrying the dead body to the place of cremation and refused to give fire for igniting the funeral pyre. At last Sankara determined to perform the funeral rites all alone. As he could not carry the entire dead body, he cut it into pieces and removed the pieces one by one to the backyard of the house. He then made a pyre there of stems of plantain trees and set fire to it by his Yogic power. Sankara wanted to teach the Nambudiris a lesson. He then made the local chief issue an edict that a corner should be set apart in each Illam or house of the Nambudiri Brahmins to burn the dead of the family and that they should cut the dead body into parts and then burn the same. This practice continues even today amongst Nambudiri Brahmins.

Because Namboodhris are Krishna devotees - Guruvayur and Badrinath are under their control. How many wives each Namboodhri has like Krishna, as Namboodhris follow Krishna. Are Namboodhris good at playing flute?

I came across this website which describes how the person facing death is treated and how the cremation is done by Namboodiris.

Please read it, though very long!

There is NO mention of cutting the body of the dead person. One portion is in the quotes:

''There are certain rites traditionally performed when a Namboothiri (or "Antharjanam") is approaching death. First, sandal paste

("Chandanam") [sandalwood - Santalum album], ash ("Bhasmam") and "Gopi" are to be applied on the person's forehead."Thulasi"

[sacred basil - Ocimum sanctum], "Karuka-Maala" ["Karuka" - dog grass - Cynodon dactylon] and white flowers are to be placed on

the head. He/she is to be kept touched with "Darbha" grass [sacrificial grass - Pao cynosuroides], God's name chanted ("Naama

Japam"), and important portions of "Bhaagavatham", "Raamaayanam", "Naaraayaneeyam", etc. read out. Sacred waters

("Theerthham") such as "Sahasra-Naama-Theerthham', "Thulasee-Theerthham", or "Kaasee-Theerthham" should be offered. The

person should be made to offer Thulasi and "Koovalam" [wood apple - Aegle marmalos] leaves to idols like "Saalagraagam" and

"Baanalingam" which are placed on a "Pooppaalika" tray, and to plant saplings of "Nelli" [gooseberry tree - Emblica officinalis] and

Thulasi, and to water them. If the critical stage is reached in the morning or evening in the case of a male, another Namboothiri should

touch him, take bath and perform Sandhyaa-Vandanam and chant "Gaayathry" on his behalf. The final rotating portion of Sandhyaa-

Vandanam may be replaced by holding his hand and turning it around his head.
It is customary for all the close relatives to prostrate

before the person and ask for forgiveness, and to get blessed by placing the person's palm on their heads (assisted by a by-stander,

if needed). On the person's behalf and connected through a Darbha grass, the others shall offer the customary "Daanams" (gifts

including umbrella, sandals and walking stick ("Yaathraa-Daanam"), either real or as a formality. The performance of such rites should

not frighten the person in any way. Elderly Namboothiris and Antharjanams often face impending death with calmness and equanimity,

performing the rites unassisted, or prompting relatives as to what to do.
When death seems to be really near, the person has to be laid

on the floor ("Nilathu Irakkal") which has been wiped with cow-dung, spread with Kaasi sand [(sand from Kaasi (Banares)] or any sand

mixed with earth from under a Thulasi plant, as well as Darbha grass spread pointing south. The "Cheviyil Othu" is to be chanted on

behalf of the dying person.
The eldest among those who are eligible to perform the rites, touches the person's right ear with Darbha

grass and chants about half the Othu, washes the hand, repeats it touching the left ear, washes the hand again, and completes the rest,

touching the head. After the person's death, the nine openings are closed with gold or with gooseberry.

Ignorance again. For one Guruvayur and one badrinath there exists Thirunakkara Mahadeva, a Thrissur Vadakkunnatha, A Thrissur Paramekkavu Bagavathy, A sabarimala ayyappa, a Vaikom Mahadeva etc., etc., and numerous other Siva temples dotted all over Kerala. Namboodris plays well the Udukkai/Damru which Siva holds in his hand. LOL.

Maybe all Nambudiris aren't Shaivites but the particular sect (described in the OP) - the sect belonging to Sri Adi Sankara - is Shaivite (or predominantly Shaivite but also worshiping Vishnu). This is because Sri Adi Sankara was born to one Sri "Sivaguru" and "Aryamba".

Besides, even at his mother's deathbed, Sri Adi Sankara first sings 'Shiva Bhujanga Prayata Stotram' and only when his mother fears the Shiva ganas, sings 'Vishnu Bhujanga Prayata Stotram'. (http://stotraratna.sathyasaibababrotherhood.org/v42.htm). This clearly shows Sri Adi Sankara to be predominant worshiper of Shiva (and thus the sect he belonged to) rather than Vishnu. Also there is evidence of numerous works on Lord Shiva and goddess Parvathi by Sri Adi Sankara.

A staunch Shaivite cannot worship Vishnu or his avatars, let alone writing a bhajan.

Hence, Adi Sankara is definitely not a true Shaivite. His photograph is made to look as a Shaivite. The moment he wrote a bhajan on Krishna, he seizes to be a Shaivite.

Some people refuse to come out of Siva Vishnu bracket.

Adi Sankara's first composition is believed to be kanakaDhArA stotram, which is on neither Siva noron ViSnu.

The question is whether Adi Sankara was a true Shaivite or not. Your reply confirms Adi Sankara recited sloga on other God also. If so, how can he be called a true Shaivite? Have you not come across the names of Sambhandar, Manickavasagar, Sundarar and Thirunavukarasar, and, of course, Nandanar and Kannappa Nainar?
