dear raji,
people are cheap. i have found, especially, when phoren people return to india, expect huge hospitality and favours, and in return, hand over some chocolates, or a polyester sari.
this generalization, like all, ofcourse errs, but many many occassions, i have heard this complaint.
which makes me, doubly sensitive, whenever i seek anything from my indian relatives. i would rather pay a professional , and get the job done, than currying favours from blood, knowing how busy they are. but this approach is also a double edged sword, for sometimes, this too is taken as an insult. 'why would they go to someone else, when i am around'? they ask.
no matter what, it is tough to win. with relatives.
in your case, you would not be wrong, if you wrote an email with details of your bill. nothing wrong with that. otherwise, this girl will never know how cheap she was. probably taught that way, by her parents.
