In tamil nadu ,pondichery prohibition has become an election issue.

suddenly everyone is clamouring for it.

there is a price to be paid for it,

if govt freebies vanish on account of lost revenues due to prohibition, the same people will protest.

building temples everywhere is no answer to the issue of alcoholism.

high minimum wages and good working conditions with less working hours and more rest can alter the situation a lot.

now for the poor after a day of hard work , liquor is the only source of relief.

if that is also blocked, it will lead to social unrest and law and order problems.

KARUNAANIDHI has announced that if DMK comes to power, the first signature will be on

"Prohibition Bill".

Playing the card too late? Of course, public memory is too short.

This forum has a great veteran predictor!

This member who has absolutely no clear idea about the history of Tamil Nadu comes here to offer his absurd opinion

The State has a long history of ‘Prohibition’.

But there was no law and order problem or social unrest then.

The state might have a "long history of ‘Prohibition’", but the poor working class had supply of indigenous liquor of one kind or another. (This was true of the Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts areas of today.) What Shri krishji states is a truth I believe. In Kerala today, after the bars were closed, spurious liquor is freely available and, strangely, it is the womenfolk themselves (of the labour class) who make and sell this spurious stuff!

Side by side, the sale of narcotics, from Pan Parag kind to correction ink for typewriter and ganja, painkillers, etc., have increased and is the favourite of school and college students!

Is it not, therefore, a better social welfare measure to make available good quality liquor at affordable prices? Brahmins cannot take a moralistic stand of "no drinking" because the intoxicating Soma was the contribution of the vedas themselves and most of the vedic gods were picturised as very fond of Soma and beef!

Sangom Ji,

You can believe him.

You can also build a temple for such human who predicts absurd which you believe as truth. No one prevent you.

My point is what is the basis that if prohibition is introduced again, there will be law and order problem and social unrest.

This prediction has no basis at all and is just an imagination which will not hold any water and is inconsistent.

I think he should be heading an Intelligence Agency to pass on such useful information to the Government to take preventive measures well advance.

Or otherwise he can also practice conveying such ‘Prediction’ as a Baba/Godman as most believe.

Shri Balasubramanian ji,

I think we may assume that what is happening in Kerala, is most likely to happen in TN also. So long as the locally brewed stuff does not cause a disaster due to methyl alcohol or some such thing, no problem. But once a liquor tragedy happens, there will be public outsry, media magnifying everything as government's fault and so on, that any government based on votes will have to capitulate.

Yesterday, I heard A.K. Antony saying that when he banned chArAyam (சாராயம்) in the 90's he had been careful not to close the liquor bars because he knew that overnight no one can make a habitual drinker to quit that habit. Even in Gujarat's capital, Ahmedabad, spurious liquor was available almost at every traffic junction!

Sangom Ji,

Being a senior member how can you compare Kerala with Tamil Nadu.

Ruling Party is different and policies are also different

For you information I don’t believe in assumptions and presumptions. I believe in facts and truth and truth alone.

First of all does this Delhi wala has any idea as to what will happen to him tomorrow?

He comes here to predict and say that there will be law and order problem and social unrest if prohibition is introduced.

Is he has any minimum idea as to the preventive measures that will be taken up by the ruling Government to ensure peace in the State even if his so called or alleged prediction comes true.

Let him predict the following:

1) when the construction of new toilets for schools, colleges and hospitals will be taken up and completed at Delhi by the present AAP Government which is its tall poll promise??

2) What happened to Jan Lokpal??

3) Swaraj???

4) Full statehood to Delhi ???

5) Cleaning of Yamuna??

Let him predict truth about these promises first instead predicting about the Tamil Nadu about which he has poor idea.
