S S Rajendran Passes away

Actor of great fame who could deliver dialogues with clarity and diction and who has acted in box office hit films of 70s and 80s passed away to day at Chennai.

I remember seeing his film 'kai kodutha theivam'with shivaji ganesan ,savithri made in 1964 which won

presidents silver medal for best feature film in 1965.

in 1971 as a rajyasabha MP he cast a crucial vote favouring indira congress when he was very sick.

I would like to share the following news item:

Actor with a 'policy'

Close on the heels of Indian cinema celebrating its centenary year, the industry has lost one of its doyens, S S Rajendran (popularly known as SSR), today. The actor breathed his last at a hospital in Chennai, where he was admitted for health complications.

In a career spanning over six decades, he has over 100 films to his credit. SSR has the rare distinction of being the first actor to get elected as MLA (1962). He was known for his attractive personality and clear pronunciation of Tamil on screen and he had shared the screen with legends including MGR and Sivaji Ganesan.

From stage to screen Bitten by the acting bug, SSR chose drama as platform to make an entry into cinema. He got formal training in acting by joining Puliya Maanagar Boy's Company in his teens.

Though he acted in several stage dramas, it was the title role in Bala Abhimanyu that brought him name and fame. He was also part of TKS Brothers Drama Company, Muththamizh Kala Vidva Rathna TKS Sabha. His passion for rationalist thoughts draw him close to Periyar E V Ramasamy and C N Annadurai
.
