More than 100,000 people were stranded at the Guangzhou Railway Station in central China this week after rare snow disrupted the typically busy travel season leading up to the Chinese New Year on Feb. 8.
Travelers faced flight delays and cancelations after heavy snow fell in central Hubei province Sunday. At least 23 trains were delayed at Guangzhou, according to The Guardian, and the airport in the city of Wuhan closed down. According to the airport's website, 67 flights were canceled Sunday and a trickle of flights were delayed or canceled Monday because of the bad weather.
Chinese travelers are estimated to make nearly 3 billion trips in the 40 days surrounding the Lunar New Year, which is also known as Spring Festival Season.
