If his fellow ministers do their job and not get into controversy by blabbering, visible results will tell the public despite media's mischief.

[h=1]Acche din kidhar hain, asks PIL against PM and BJP – THE TIMES OF INDIA[/h]MUMBAI: A month after the Narendra Modi-led BJP swept the Lok Sabha polls on the plank of 'Acche Din Aane Wale Hain', a city-based organization has dragged the Prime Minister and the party to court over "broken promises".

A PIL has been filed in the Bombay high court by the All India Anti Corruption and Citizens Welfare Core Committee and its founder, advocate M V Holmagi, alleging "criminal breach of trust" by the new government over the increase in the prices of railway tickets and other commodities. Holmagi, who is appearing in the matter in person, mentioned the petition before a division bench of Justices Abhay Oka and A Chandurkar on Wednesday.

The bench told the advocate it had already rejected a plea in another PIL against the railway ticket prices hike on Tuesday. The court also pointed out that its administrative office had marked objections in the petition, which had to be removed.

Congress cronies and its allies will continue to throw stones and muck. Modi govt will be "karumame kannayinar" (as modi is for the past 12 years) and put the country in the development path. If Sonia and other secular culprits get their dues, it will be a bonus.

The greatest positive quality of Mr Narendra Modi is that he has identified the areas like Defence, Foreign Relations, Containing prices of essentials, where he has to concentrate first and he is is aware of the limitations that he has to face in operating under the constraints of democratic norms. It is imperative on the part of any new Prime Minister first is to take full ownership of the new Government with all its flaws. Governance is a continuous process, it may take some time for the new Prime Minister to identify the areas of flaws left over by the previous regime and weed-out the worthless things before implanting new procedure. 30 days is too short a period for evaluation of any Government.

Well, to begin with Mr Modi has started well by improving administrative efficiency, by dissolving the large number of groups of ministers created by the previous PM, which had delayed decision making. He has fixed time limit of maximum of two weeks for inter ministerial consultations an important move towards efficiency. "A ministry that does not meet the deadline is now expected to come and articulate its objections in a Cabinet meeting. This could prove to be an effective deterrent against the endless delays that have plagued the system for so many years". Mr Modi is a disciplinarian and he has initiated steps to inculcate the same among his Ministers and bureaucrats.

How ever it is my view that Mr Narendra Modi has not completed formation of his Cabinet of Ministers yet. It is too difficult to handle two important Ministries like Defence and Finance by one person how ever efficient he may be.

He should have dropped the Congress appointed Governors first and replaced with persons of eminence.

BJP leaders hail Modi government's first month in office.

New Delhi, June 26 (ANI): Bhartiya Janata Party's leaders have hailed the completion of the Narendra Modi led NDA government's first month in office, saying that the government and all his ministers will give very good results.

BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh termed the new government's achievements as unprecedented and said that no government in India had worked so much in one month.

He also told ANI, "It was an unprecedented move of any government in India that in the first 30 days all the SAARC nations came to the swearing ceremony and throughout the world, everybody noticed it. There is a buzz in the ministries of coming up with innovative proposals. Masses feel that India will come out of its slumber."

Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Kalraj Mishra too praised the government but added a note of caution on tackling inflation.

He said, "We are giving priority to all the issues of the people. We will try that inflation does not increases. The Prime Minister is seeking information from every ministry and we want to create faith among the people. You cannot control inflation within one month and we are trying hard that inflation does not increase now." (ANI).

Let us now read from PM himself about what he thinks! Indeed from horse's mouth

Dear Friends, Today our Government completes a month in office. The support and affection of the people has been overwhelming and this inspires us to work even harder.

67 years of previous governments is nothing compared to 1 month, but I do want to say that in the last month, our entire team has devoted every single moment for the welfare of the people. Every decision we took has been guided solely by national interest.

When we took over a month ago, I kept thinking that I am new to this place and some people believed that I would take at least a year or even two to learn the intricacies of the working of the Central Government. Fortunately, a month later that thought does not exist any longer in my mind. My confidence and determination has increased tremendously and I credit a substantial part of this to the collective experience and wisdom of my ministerial colleagues and also to my experiences as a four time Chief Minister. The affection of the people and support from officials has also added to this confidence in large measure.

Over the past few days I have been meeting Ministers and Officials from various departments who have been making detailed presentations to me. I must share that these presentations have enabled a wonderful exchange of thoughts and ideas and we have come up with excellent roadmaps for the various ministries and departments.

CMs of several states have met me in the past month. They have extended their good wishes and talked about issues concerning their state. I look forward to working closely with them in the times to come.

I feel there are areas where surely we need to improve. A big challenge I am facing in Delhi is to convey to a select group of people about our intentions and sincerity to bring a positive change in this country. These are people who are both within and outside the government system. There have been some instances in the last month with which our Government had nothing to do yet these controversies have persisted. I don’t blame anybody but I surely feel that we need to strengthen systems whereby the right things are communicated to the right people at the right time. Hopefully things will change then.

Every new Government has something that friends in the media like to call a ‘honeymoon period.’ Previous governments had the luxury of extending this ‘honeymoon period’ upto a hundred days and even beyond. Not unexpectedly I don’t have any such luxury. Forget hundred days, the series of allegations began in less than a hundred hours. But when one is working with the sole aim of serving the nation determinately, these things do not matter. That is why I keep working and that is most satisfying.

26th of June is an important date for me. It marks the completion of one month of our journey to fulfil the aspirations of the people. This day is also another landmark day, when in 1975 I witnessed an important phase that taught me the significance of a vibrant democracy. 26[SUP]th[/SUP] June was the day when the Emergency started, having been imposed an evening earlier. As a youngster, I have several memories of those testing times.

The Emergency surely stands out as one of the darkest periods in our history and is a grim reminder of the dangers associated with subverting freedom of speech, press, expression and silencing opposition. Our democracy will not sustain if we can’t guarantee freedom of speech and expression. Today is also a day to reaffirm our pledge to safeguard these values and at the same time create strong institutions through good governance so that that we never ever see those dark days again.

Once again I salute the people of India for their strong support and good wishes as we complete a month in office. I assure you that we are committed to taking India to greater heights in the years to come.

Yours,

namo-sign-img.jpg

Modi regime's 1 month: Some tough decisions, many challenges remain – IBN Live

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government completed its first month in office on Thursday. In the past month the government has been praised for measures like forming an SIT on black money but it has also been in the line of fire for a steep hike in railway fair announced ahead of the budget.

Prime Minister Modi, in the past one month, has been firm on keeping a check on the ministers in the government and is keeping a hawk eye on the expenditure by his ministers as he tightens the belt. He is believed to have instructed all his ministers to refrain from buying new cars as part of his austerity measures. He is also said to have asked the ministers to take PMO's approval for any purchases above Rs 1 lakh.

In only a month, the Modi government has also faced various challenges ranging from the Iraq crisis to inflation to a below normal monsoon.

Govt. launches campaign to mark 30 days in office- The Hindu

The government on Thursday marked the completion of one month in office with a promotional campaign that sought to showcase the “clear vision, concrete action” on display in the last 30 “decisive” days.

While the Information and Broadcasting Ministry released a five-and-a-half-minute-long video on YouTube to raise a toast to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his office came out with a poster that provided in bullet points the achievements of the government.

With the tagline ‘Action, Not Acts: Towards a Developed India,’ the poster flags the “skill, scale and speed” mantra of governance. And the achievements listed are — setting up an SIT to bring back black money, the 10-point agenda for speedy development, improved work culture across the government, abolishing the Groups of Ministers and Empowered Groups of Ministers, increasing the height of the Narmada Dam, Mr. Modi choosing Bhutan for his first foreign visit instead of an economic powerhouse and enhanced cooperation with the SAARC nations.

The video also follows the same trajectory, with the focus mainly on Mr. Modi. His ministerial colleagues feature fleetingly in camera sweeps of Cabinet meetings in the video christened “Pradhanmantri ki prathmiktayein’’ (Prime Minister’s priorities).

Beginning with his swearing-in as premier, the video quotes foreign policy experts’ description of his invitation to SAARC leaders as a “master-stroke,” which delivered immediate results in the form of release of Indian prisoners by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

While the weak monsoon is billed as a possible challenge for the new government, the video points to the efforts being made by the government to deal with a drought-like situation. It claims that foreign tourist arrivals have gone up by 10 per cent over the corresponding period last year.

In 100 days I hope there will be real anecdotes (not engineered) of ordinary people who can say how life has changed, This may be a tall order since state and local govenance control large part of one's life in dealing with 'government'

Still the 'Ache din' must have real faces and real stories in 1100 days. 5 or 6 anacdotes that most can relate to will be wonderful

I agree that it is too soon, I too agree that 100 days, should be a benchmark.

I quite agree 30 days are too short to judge.

Modis rhetoric has built up a lot of expectations in people

he might find it very difficult to raise upto their expectations

my fear is he is a obama in the making.

let us see

Modi has three and a half terms of administrative and governance experience as chief minister. He is not a novice like rahul or kejri. I do not know what Obama did before his elevation.

30 days of Modi government! Has he got his first month salary? Rail fare hike (suburban) 100% to 200%!. Now rolled back to 14+ per cent. What does this mean? This looks like tamashah! He might have taken a lot of actions. The previous governments had taken a lot of actions. What the public interested is the effect of his actions. Onion and potato prices are on their wings; others will follow. Nobody is talking about the lakhs of tonnes of food grains rotting in various FCI's w/houses. Of course it is too early to criticize Modi. Monsoon has also not revived anywhere. Nature seems to tell us "achhe din ab nahin aayega" IMHO, Modi is discovering himself. But he does not seem to be enjoying the days. Will he bear his promises out or wear out only time can tell. Of course it is not easy going for anybody.

In a blog to mark his first 30 days in office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi complains of facing “resistance” from both “within” and “outside” the “government system”, and being denied the traditional “honeymoon” period of the first one hundred days of a government when it is spared criticism.

This is mystifying. Even a cursory look at the newspapers and television will reveal that the media is eating out of the government’s hand, and routine official announcements are claiming banner headlines — suggesting an indulgent media.

While some things that have happened are worthy of criticism — to wit, the advice to ministers and BJP MPs not to speak to the media unless cleared to do so — even traditional BJP critics are being careful not to be seen going to town with their opinions. Everyone seems to be waiting to see what the Modi government concretely does, and is therefore waiting for the Budget and other big policy moves.

If the media has shown restraint, the Opposition parties have not fired on all cylinders either. A minister’s reckless observations on the sensitive Article 370 — dealing with Kashmir — drew only calibrated comment. The circular on what sounded like imposing Hindi was essentially criticised by some regional parties, not others. The government hiked railway fares, saying it had implemented the UPA’s plan. But no one asked whether it was obliged to do so.
Modi Governance: Honeymoon blues?

Media is not screaming at Sonia or rahul or vadra despite their involvement in himalayan scale corruption. Times TV had 13 episode on nitin gadkari on his alleged involvement in sugar cooperative scam, which turned out to be a busvanam. The media which has been baying for modi's blood for 12 years is definitely without rudder and still not sure what to do. Another modi baiter varshney from UK is forced to admit that he will support modi if RSS is kept out. Bunch of also beens who have not understood and accepted the bharatiyata vision. Today former minister Antony has raised counts on secularism of his party. Even the Hindu is forced to publish comments that criticize the editorial/opinion author.

Modi effect: MEA officials weed out old files, papers

tiny wheeny good news re governance:

NEW DELHI: The suited and booted officials of the ministry of external affairs had a different job at hand today - weeding out old files and papers and removing unusable and obsolete furniture.

Officials offered 'shramdhan' to make their office clean and tidy to meet the expectations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Cabinet secretary Ajit Seth had recently written to secretaries of central government departments pressing the need for clean working spaces.

Seth had written to all secretaries following a directive from the Prime Minister, an official said.

All official papers that had outlived their utility and are not needed for future reference were weeded out, shredded, rolled up in plastic bags and sent for destruction.

Special teams and trucks were organized for collection and removal of the items in the South Block, Jawaharlal Nehru Bhavan, Patiala House and Shastri Bhavan housing different divisions of the MEA, sources said.

The effort was spearheaded by a young foreign service officer Shambhu Kumaran, joint secretary (Establishment) who had worked out a schedule well in advance and coordinated with all the senior officials to ensure their personal attention and involvement.

The aim is to improve working spaces and the work environment, a source said.

Fifth column: Ignore the pundits, PM

Tavleen singh has rightly expressed the views of the aam admi who elected modi. He will give sufficient time for modi to rid the system of the ills of gandhi/congress regime and take the country forward with its culture and traditions given due merit. sada log, psecs, and appeasers and commies have to content themselves with their dreams shattered and rendered insignificant.
Some excerpts:

"So it is settled. The finest political pundits tell us that Narendra Modi is finished because in his first month in office he has not been able to transform India. These political pundits and their comrades have been invisible since May 16, but they are back now. The day the railway fares and freight charges went up for the first time in more than a decade, was when they first started to reappear. Discredited Marxists, socialists in graded shades of pink, ‘secular’ political philosophers and ex-MPs manifested themselves on news channels to gleefully taunt the Prime Minister.

"
It is that old gang again. The same people who predicted that Modi would never become prime minister, the same people who said India would break again if he did become prime minister. These same people now want to ensure that he does not stay prime minister too long. So silly statements by novice ministers are magnified into serious political discourses. And any sign that the Prime Minister may really be signalling a new direction is ignored.

"
Most political pundits in the national media like to think they are guardians of India’s ‘pluralism’ and cannot believe that the voters of India rejected this fine ideal. They do not want to admit they may have misjudged Modi. They will be very disappointed if in the next five years there are no pogroms against Muslims.

"
The people of India will give him more time because it is they who ensured that he became the first prime minister in 30 years to get a full majority.

It is The Modi Sarkar

The hindu is obviously in a dilemma; it is torn between its anti modi obsession for the past 12 years and ram's prophetic assertion that modi will never become pm has backfired on him. His editors too have been reduced to allow more pro modi comments on articles.

"Mr. Modi’s focus in the first month has been on putting in place systems that are expected to streamline and hasten decision-making in the government. To that end, he has made it clear that he would restore confidence in the bureaucracy, entrust senior officials with taking decisions and also back them in the process. “After one month, two things are clear. One, this government is not run by racketeers. Two, there is a sense of urgency in all arms of the government,” says a senior Cabinet Minister.

"
Senior government officials were asked what they would like their departments to achieve, what went wrong in the past and what they could have done differently if allowed to do so. It was the first time in eight years that a Prime Minister had met all the Secretaries.

"
On balance, Mr. Modi’s moves and manoeuvres in the first month have kept hopes alive for both friends and foes. The first find enough reasons to think that he will pull it off; the second thinks this model is unsustainable.

we have to wait and watch before coming to any conclusions based on 30 days. The Challanges are more.Tough decisions to be taken people need to understand the reality. His biggest challange is to change the mindset from freebies.

The smart 'public' needs to learn to ignore - Corrupt people in 'leadership roles' who may become desperate, beneficiaries of outside-India-money from aggressive religious interests, corrupt media that is untrustworthy by and large (people should stop reading papers like 'The Hindu') , super rich who thrive in exploiting the week, Uninformed and argumentative Indians who think they are elite but are actually stupid & harmful ....

There is a need to hold the new government and its leader accountable for results but Government alone cannot solve 50 years of corrupt establishments. Every Indian citizen and every person of Indian origin who care about India have a role to play. The government and its policies have to enable the transformation to take place by their highest standards of behavior.

100 days or about 3 months is a good time to look back if the country is beginning to go on the right track. Full transformation may take 10 years or so and that is relatively small considering that the current state was achieved in 50+ years. A overweight person who got his weight over 20 years cannot be asked to run in a marathon in 20 days. But one can see if in 100 days the person is beginning to lost a pound of two.

If there are few good media outlets that is less susceptible to corruption and interference by outside interests then progress will be rapid. In the absence of this the best the new PM can do is use technology like websites, twitter, facebook etc to communicate directly to the masses and sideline the corrupt media, corrupt politicians and the uninformed elite nincompoops ..

I do not believe that media is against Modi government. The bias of the media probably goes both ways. Even otherwise the media has to present the cases of injustice to minority, which otherwise will not be heard.

Just because they point out omissions of the modi government they are not necessarily against Modi. The shrill voice of Hindutva alone should be the pOV expressed here. Like TKsji says "There is a need to hold the new government and its leader accountable for results". Let us not try to shut the dissenting voices but listen to them. There is room to improve, even in the best of situations.

Prasadji ... I am not saying media is for or against PM Modi - rather I do not trust them because they are corrupted by outside influence and money. Elsewhere I posted an analysis of how influence and interference at highest levels of media management.

Any jouranist/media organization/paper that can be trusted should hold any party in power. I have no issue with that. I just do not know if such organizations exist anymore. Most are corrupt
