hi everyone,
usually our community( not only ours but all indians) people are brilliants & able to socialise any where in the world. This blessing is now becoming curse for our community.for example our children go to usa to earn money, fame, etc & they achieve all their dreams there. but what they lose there is their culture, respectable tradition, dharma, etc.our children are good & without knowing their values get attracted towards western style & become so much attracted that they are unable to return to their motherland.
now coming back to the actual scene. they earn money, facilities, etc. what they lose is their children. where they lose is to the western culture.you are the ambassadors of our tradition. but we can even say that you succumb to western culture which is not at all acceptable to us.
our childrens are to be broughtup in our culture & married in our culture only.Life in western countries will be amazing only for 15 years are more. if our daughter is dating with a western boy will blood come in your eyes or not.also if your son do the same will it shock you or not.
you can earn money there but you should not fall prey to the westerm culture your children there because sanadhana dharma only gives peace always.
I openly invite all (not only our tamil brahmin community ) to return to the culture which is pervasive for yugas. I even move a footstep ahead & ask to surrender whatever residential status cards you have & return to india. Here we don't have wealth but we have intellectual property which should be nurtured hereitself.
your parents lived happily here only. you were broughtup by our values respecting & not money respecting parents in this sacred country only.you are always have the freedom to earn money anywhere. but you should not lose your life anywhere.come and spend whatever you earned using your intelligence in the same place which gave you the gift.

I believe, people go to alien country to earn money. In the process they lose their cultural identity.

If a person gains one thing (money), he loses one thing (cultural identity). It is quite natural, a person / child is affluently influenced by the environment in which he lives.

Nobody can deny that while a person goes to USA or any other country, his first priority is earning; the cultural values in his mind, are secondary.

After reaching certain level i.e. getting stabilised and having wards in adolescence age “the conditioned mind of an Indian father” starts working in its conventional way.

People want to eat the cake
(earning) and have it (Indian culture) too.

Those who all shouts of Indian culture and sanadhana dharma, forget the transformation which takes place in the mean time.

For the “second generation migrants”, western culture to which alone they are exposed and accustomed to, becomes their “dominant” culture.

Let me confine my opinion about Tamil Brahmins only. I feel a minority community has to change constantly according to the pressures of Society where it lives, if it has to survive. That is what Tamil Brahmins are doing for the past three generations, without losing its core values. Culture and traditions are not static, it changes as per the need. Our culture today is not the same our previous generations established and enjoyed. In those days, Brahmins enjoyed certain amount of respect in the society for their erudition and contentment. Look at the condition today. The life of Brahmin, envy of yesterday, is being heckcked and joked at in public. Why ? Because we left all that our forefathers cherished and guarded assiduously. and forced to compete with others to earn our living. The Society has changed now, so also our views on many things in life. "Sanathana Dharma" is found only in ancient texts. "Dharma Sastras" are replaced by "Secular Laws". It is common that "Anuloma Marriages" are replaced by "Asavarna PrathilomaMarriages".

Well, I do agree that living in a foreign Country has its plus and minus. Ultimatley the aim is to lead a comfortable life, with respect. Which is achieved abroad when we earn reasonable income and good living. The flop side is that we lose our roots while we replant our living. How ever in a few generations new cultural identity will be established by the children.

Change is constant. No one can stop. “Change (parivarthan) is the essence of Life (niyam)” declares Lord Krishna in the Bhagwat Geetha.

Bangalore.

Tamil brahmins have become a nomadic community for generations and our first and foremost aim is to earn as high an income as possible. Our children study well, acquire all the additional qualifications for a foreign visa, and then get a good job abroad. They settle down there and these foreign countries are able to provide clean air, clean environment and a rich style of living all of which these youngsters will lose once they (foolishly) decide to come back to India. The second generation has to necessarily become western to a very large degree, and, in this process, we may lose our people permanently. If they lose one set of values, necessarily they will have to live by another set of values.

It is true that the first generation emigrants got their education etc., from this country but what has this country got to give them so that they are not lured to go abroad? This is what needs thinking, not an empty exhortation to all the PIOs to come back and starve here, merely to obey their parents!

Well said sir. One thing is that youngsters (those who can) now opt to go abroad for their higher studies, for various reasons. I know several instances among my circle itself.
