Abortions by U-15 Mumbai girls up 67%

Abortions among teenage girls below the age of 15 in Mumbai have recorded an alarming 67% spike in 2014-15. Civic data accessed through an RTI further shows that out of nearly 31,000 women who opted for medical termination of pregnancy, 1,600 were below the age of 19.

Health experts have called the trend of unwanted pregnancies alarming, while harping on the need for better sex education in schools and junior colleges. The BMC data, collated from all licenced Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) centres in the city, shows that in 2013-14 around 111 girls below the age of 15 had undergone an abortion. The number has risen to 185 in 2014-15. Even for the age-bracket of 15-19, there has been a 47% jump when compared with the previous year.

I suppose some of us do not want to believe it LOL.

"The numbers are shocking," said gynaecologist and former president of Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India Dr Suchitra Pandit. "What is worrisome is these girls are just out of school. On one hand, we have more and more young girls walking up to doctors and asking for contraceptives, and on the other we have these statistics," she added. Pandit believes the reasons vary from curiousity to exploitation to plain ignorance about safe sex.

An analysis of reasons why women needed MTPs (carried out in 2013-14) showed that failure of contraceptives topped the chart, with nearly 23,000 out of 30,000 stating it. The other reasons shown were danger to mother's life or that the child may suffer from abnormalities. In only 10 cases, rape was shown as the reason for pregnancy.

However, others feel it is time for planners to device smarter ways to reach out to the young rather than brushing the issue under the carpet. "There is increased sexual activity among teenagers. Sex is happening everywhere but nobody wants to talk about it," said Nayreen Daruwalla, who heads the NGO SNEHA's centre for vulnerable women and children.
Mr. Sarag I know nothing about this NGO, so do not waste your post.

This is the ultimate outcome of blind following the West.

We may come across more crude shocks like this in future.

Well it looks as if finally the truth is out that behind the so called "conservative" image lies a dark side of total irresponsibility!

I am not talking about morals here but just plain logic.

Both males and females who want to indulge in sex should know the risk and the consequences and also be taught the need to use contraception so that unwanted pregnancy can be avoided and innocent loss of lives of aborted fetus can be avoided.

I have noted that overall many people from even villages of India have very less regard for human life.

Many times I get female patients from India who follow their husbands here and these females are from the village and some are illiterate but come in here demanding for an abortion!

I just tell them off that a human life is worth much more than that too be just killed by an abortion and tell them that I do not do abortions..

The worst part is these females actually then ask me if I am a Muslim since I am anti abortion!LOL

They being Hindus themselves do not expect another Hindu to have ethics!

I dont want to blame western culture or eastern culture here and not identify the problem...the truth is many people married or unmarried have sex irresponsibly without proper contraception and its time these problems are addressed.

There is no use hiding behind the cloak of conservatism...is India all that conservative?

When one sees DID Super Mums dancing contest show on Zee TV ..one is totally surprised to see middle class married women openly hugging male actors and male dance choreographers.

These women are mostly homely looking housewives who do not seem to think twice before hugging another male that too when their husbands are watching them!

Then there is another show India Poochega Sabse Shaana Kaun hosted by Shah Rukh Khan.

Here again middle class housewives seem to be all over SRK and even elderly grandmothers from the audience ask him to dance with them for some Kuch Kuch Hota Hai songs and they imagine to be his heroine and are so cool about hugs and kisses!

For Gods sake! I myself like SRK but surely when if I ever see him I wont want to hug or kiss him cos I have reservations of hugging another male who is not my Muhrim(related by blood or a husband)

But I see that reservation of hugging another male is lacking in Middle Class contestants in India.

Even my mother asked me 'what is happening to India..none of us here would want to hug another male like how these women are misbehaving"

So I really wonder why many still want to dream "conservatism" still exists.

67% abortion statistics speaks for itself.

What you have seen or are seeing on the TV screen is a microcosm of the Indian womanhood. It is a deviant, depraved and sick minority. Come to my village in Tamilnadu and interact with the woman and you will know what are the values they cherish. The woman you talk to may be just illiterate and poor, may be just a farm worker. She may have a healthy desire for and the fire to indulge in sex. But she will tell you what she thinks about hugs and kisses of the variety you have mentioned with just a monosyllabic thooo..... India lives in this so called conservative majority which consists of the village folk and the large bulk of middle class which lives in cities. For them SRK or Salman is just another entertainer who does a good job. It is the rich and liberated class which crosses bounderies and foolishly experiments. While it has a lot of money its value system is all in shambles.

For cut paste jobs no knowledge is necessary. Many NGOs exist only on paper, no valid adress or no office. Dozens of ngos have the same address of a kirana shop with not even the semblance of an office. Quoting the output, many a time trash, is the past time for some, but gobbled by the select few who are looking for such material.

A big ngo, say FF, collects money from gullible public and institutions, identifies projects (either from a list prepared by them or from those submitted to them), subcontracts the study, collects and files the study report and releases it whenever it finds opportune time to please its masters or for a fee.

Anyone with sense and wisdom will apply god given faculties to evaluate the findings if he is interested in the topic or throw it in the dustbin with the scorn it deserves.

If necessary I will use this space to expose falthu ngos.

Tune in and watch DID Super Mums...none of the contestants are rich and liberated..they are middle class and that too mostly housewives.

Rich and liberated are loaded words. Especially 'liberated'. Unfortunately, the participants in such programms (including neeya naana) are coached, rehearsed and word fed to make the program 'jana ranchakam'. Anyone facing a tv camera for the first time either becomes dumb or talks silly and rubbish.

But surely not dumb enough to drool and hug members of the opposite sex..in this case middle class house wives drooling over males.

Whatever happened to the simple Namaste with folded hands instead of hugging and kissing?

It clearly looks as if the Rusikanda Poonai virus is spreading..once some people taste some amount of freedom..they go all crazy and do not know how and when to stop.

[h=1]Those Challenging India's Resolve to Crack Down on Foreign NGOs Can Do So At Their Own Peril[/h]
The lure of dollars may mould the minds of few greedy individuals looking for foreign jaunts and jobs, but it can’t shake the faith and commitment of the nation-shapers who matter. India is fighting to earn its legitimate supremacy in a world that is rapidly changing geopolitically, is resource-driven and terror-infested. Anyone who challenges its resolve will do so at his or her own peril.

Some of their (US govt's) 15-point charter of guidelines are:

• Charities should maintain and make publicly available a current list of their five highest paid or most influential employees (the key employees) and the salaries and direct or indirect benefits they receive.
• Charities are independent entities and are not part of the US government. Like all US persons, charitable organisations must comply with the laws of the US, which include, but are not limited to, all OFAC-administered sanctions programs.
• Charitable organisations are encouraged to adopt practices in addition to those required by law that provide additional assurances that all assets are used exclusively for charitable or other legitimate purposes.
• Charitable organisations should operate in accordance with governing instruments, e.g., charter, articles of incorporation, bylaws, etc. The governing instruments should: a) delineate the charity’s basic goal(s) and purpose(s); b) define the structure of the charity, including the composition of its governing body, how such body is selected and replaced, and the authority and responsibilities of the body; c) set forth requirements concerning financial reporting, accountability, and practices for solicitation and distribution of funds; d) state that the charity shall comply with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Charities should maintain and make publicly available a current list of members of the governing board, their salaries and affiliation with any subsidiary or affiliate of the charitable organisation.
• While fully respecting individual privacy rights, charities should maintain records of additional identifying information about the members of the governing board, such as available home, email and URL addresses, social security number, citizenship, etc.
• Charities should produce requested records maintained in accordance with these guidelines to the appropriate regulatory/supervisory and law enforcement authorities in a timely fashion.
• The charity should clearly state its goals for and purposes of soliciting funds so that anyone examining the charity’s disbursement of funds can determine whether the charity is adhering to those goals.
