Akkineni Nageswara Rao, legendary Telugu actor, dies in India
Legendary Indian actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao has died in the southern city of Hyderabad.
Rao, 90, who had been battling cancer for many years, died in his sleep, his actor son Nagarjuna said.
In his nearly seven-decade-long career, Rao acted in about 250 films, including hits like Tenali Rama Krishna, Devdas, Maya Bazaar and Missamma.
The Telugu actor was awarded the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award, the highest honour in Indian cinema.
The Indian government also honoured him with the country's second highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan.
His body will be taken to Annapurna studios owned by his family to enable his colleagues and fans to pay their tributes.
