I was in Chennai this week..Found the labor class patronising Amma canteens or is the other way! I spoke to the auto wallah! He says he goes to Amma cantten & has food 3 times which cost his purse Rs 15 to max Rs 18 which earlier used to cost him nothing less than Rs 80-100..That's a good savings..Same is the case with the local coolies/maistries/etc

Looks like Amma can have a rich haul in the state assembly elections too scheduled in 2016 if there are no blunders from her side!

Now Amma canteens being sought in other countries too..The quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach! Well said!!

Jaya orders setting up of 360 more Amma canteens - News Today.

Chennai, Jun 1: A day after a delegation from Egypt praised "Amma Canteens" and expressed desire to replicate it in their country, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today ordered setting up of 360 more such canteens across Tamil Nadu and announced that these would start functioning soon.

"I have ordered 360 new Amma Canteens in TN to ensure that the utility of Amma Unavagam (canteen), a bedrock of support for the poor, should reach people in other urban centres as well," Jayalalithaa said in a statement here. The popular canteens were launched by Jayalalithaa last year to provide quality food at subsidised price to the people, especially the poor. Chennai's 200 wards already have one Amma canteen each. Now each ward will get one more canteen. Similarly, 27 canteens will be set up in the premises of government general hospitals in district headquarters except towns which already have Amma canteens. Also, 129 canteens will be created in 124 municipalities and Corporations of Dindigul and Thanjavur will have one each. Coimbatore and Madurai corporations will get one more Amma Canteens each.

Why cannot every Panchayats have an Amma Unavagam...It will bring a major relief to the poor!

1. Rice procured @ Rs.1/= per kg - Source Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC)
2. Urad dhal @ Rs.30 per kg - do-
3. Toor dhal @ Rs.70/- per kg - do-
4. Edibile oil @ Rs.90/- - do-
5. Curd @ Rs.40 per litre - Source: Tamil Nadu Co-op Milk Producers Federation
6. Vegetables from open market or fromCo-operative Socities
7. Average labour strength in each Unavagam between 12 – 16
8. Staff are paid @ Rs.300/= in Chennai and Rs.200/= in other Coporations.

How much Corporations earn and spend?

Municipal Corpn.	Average detail of expr.	Average detail of collection	Shortfall absorbed by Cropn.
Chennai	14,00,000	9,00,000	5,00,000

Similarly, proportionate shortfall absorbed by respective other nine corporations.

Figures are all approximate? Why? Why is it not independently audited?
What about the labor cost?
I know it is purely for the vote bank, but it is a noble project. But if it is Robin Hood economics it is not sustainable.

My friend who works for a MNC corporation with business in Chennai, says that 10% is a customary fee. But after paying things do get done which is not the case in other parts of India.

If you can prove that she is pure as you say, may be you should join her defense team. Ignorance is not bliss.

ON October 9, a Special Judge in Chennai convicted and sentenced All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha to three years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10,000 in the "Ja ya Publications case", one of the two cases relating to the 'TANSI land deal.' In the other case, called the "Sasi Enterprises case", the Judge convicted and sentenced Jayalalitha to two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.5,000. Her close assoc iate Sasikala Natarajan, who is an accused in both the cases, received similar sentences in each case. The sentences were passed under Sections 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant or by banker, me rchant or agent) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 13 (2) and 13 (1)(c) and (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA). The cases were filed by the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) of the Tamil Nadu police almost four years ago.

Is there any connection between this issue and 10 % cut you are mentioning in Post no 2 ?

It is not right to malign her without evidence...If I say MMS is a no 1 crook & has siphoned Sonia's money abroad in secret accounts you will pounce on me asking for evidence! Let us be fair in our judgment!

The media showed shankaracharya's inqusition for tens of hours - CDs, panel discussions, name calling and the lot. His acquittal was splashed for 30 seconds. No apology or explanation for the gross misuse of freedom of speech.

Accusing anyone of corruption is very easy in public Forum Like this since the accuser need not prove any thing to anyone.

Sometime back, there was an instruction in the Forum ( if i remember it correctly ) not to write adversely about a Political Person; such guidelines are necessary to curb Polluted negative minded members accusing any political leader, Saints, and other great personalities, otherwise, the goodness of this forum will be spoiled by these mindless jerks.
