கோப்பையில் அடங்கிய
குன்றா அமுதமே
In a limited cup,
Un-diminishing nectar

நீ கொதித்து வருகையில்
கோடி இன்பம் பொங்குவதேன்!
When you boil forth
How there's a well-spring of joy!

கசப்பும் இனிப்பும் கலந்து வந்த
காபியே என் கருமணியே!
Coffee, black gem o' mine,
O Bitter -sweet blend

கன்டாங்கிச் சேலைப்போல் உன்
கசங்கிய ஆடையும் அபிருசி
As if draped in folk sari,
Even your crumpled 'malai' is a tasty treat.

கசப்பும் இனிப்பும் கலந்து வந்த
காபியே என் கருமணியே!
Coffee, black gem o' mine,
O Bitter -sweet blend

வாசனை தரும் உன் கரு தனை
வசப்படுத்திட பறக்கும் நிலை
Your quintessential aroma
Drives me to possession;

உனை துறந்தினி இல்லேன் என
உறுதி செய்து துடிக்க குடிக்க
I swear I'll never separate cup and lip,
Savoring every pulsating sip.

கசப்பும் இனிப்பும் கலந்து வந்த காபியே!
Coffee, O Bitter -sweet blend

தியானத்தை காக்க வல்ல (என்)
பாணமாய் ஆகி வந்தாய்
My guardian in contemplation,
To drink you is to imbibe devotion

திடமேவும் அமுத தாகம்
தினம்தோறும் பழகிடும் ச்னேகம்
A thirst that I elevate daily,
Into a longing for divinity.

Not only the tamil verses even the English Translation in itself is a separate 'kavithai' in itself. Good one.

Dear Sri Padmanabhan,

When I was young an Uncle told me that our ancients knew about this liquid elixer called Coffee, which will pervade the society of this holy land and written about this long ago as a prayer sloka given hereunder..

शुक्लाम्बरधरं विष्णुं शशिवर्णं चतुर्भुजम् ।
प्रसन्नवदनं ध्यायेत् सर्वविघ्नोपशान्तये ॥
Shukla-Ambara-Dharam Vissnnum Shashi-Varnnam Catur-Bhujam |
Prasanna-Vadanam Dhyaayet Sarva-Vighno[a-U]pashaantaye ||
Meaning:
1: (We Meditate on Sri Vishnu) Who is Wearing White Clothes, Who is All-Pervading, Who is Bright in Appearance like the Moon and Who is Having Four Hands,
2: Who is Having a Compassionate and Gracious Face, Let us Meditate on Him To Ward of all Obstacles.

But you know the secret meaning of this sloka, it is about Coffee only...

sukla ambara dharam vishnam = white milk (mixed with),
sasivarnam = black (decoction of coffee)
chathur-bhujam = Changing four hands (two of the wife's and two of yours)
Prasannavadhanam = (After drinking) this brightens us.
Sarva-Vighno[a-U]pashaantaye = Wards of all obstacles for the day.
