AOL - A Grand Event On Yamuna Banks

Status
Not open for further replies.
Art of Living foundation of sri sri Ravishankar kick started a 3 day festival on Yamuna bank in delhi.

Participation in the festival was from besides india, east european countries, old russian republic states, latin american countries , west indies, some african

nations.

The event enjoyed central govt support which gave a grant of 2.25 cr. Delhi govt closed its eyes and decided to support it for a change.

Environment fellows were up in arms as it was felt that damage was being done to fragile eco system on the yamuna banks. Token fines were levied on AOL,

DDA.

Inspite of hiccups , it was started. with total confusion.

Rain tried to play spoil sport.

There was no coordination between police and AOL volunteers.

The expected crowds did not turn up but many were present nevertheless.

The function started with veda parayana by thousands of young boys and men.

This would have warmed the hearts of many brahmins.

Then there were cultural dances-Kathak, bharatnatyam and mohiniattam and kathakali. The last one was delightful . Thousands of young women dancing beautifully

dressed in colourful attire. there were artists from Himachal pradesh presenting some local number.Foreigners were not left behind.

Artists from Argentina , bulgaria, old russian republic, philippines .african states presented their local dances some of which were good

When such an event happens , politicians cannot be far off. Starting with PM who inaugurated, there were dignitories from nepal, UAE, srilanka, japan, africa.latin

america, surinam

Western countries and US were not visible.

Guru Ravishankar was honoured with Kalash, many saffron clad were seen on stage.

The Instrumental music orchestra by thousands of Guruji devotees playing sitar, drums of various kind [a number of 8500 participants was mentioned] was a

treat that will be remembered for a long time.

There were some speeches praising sri sri Ravishankar and his efforts to promote universal harmony.

The event left thousands of motorists stuck in traffic for a few hours.

But all for the cause of universal good and harmony.

.

May be usual grumbling of a Delhi based brahmin whose heart failed to warm up.

What to do?

Both the AAP. the ruling party of Delhi and the BJP the ruling party at Centre are all in favour.

No other go except to try and learn the 'Art of living' peacefully among such groups.

Or try to learn the 'Art of leaving' like Mallya. lol

Heavy rains fail to mar World Culture festival, wash away controversy

From a fan’s point of view, a rain-soaked start to the Art of Living Foundation’s World Cultural Festival was a spoiler. Or was it?

Multitudes from around the world had taken their seats in huge stands, settling down for a lavish evening. But few took notice of the gathering storm until the drops fell.

On the ground, there was no trace of the raging controversy over the clearing of 1,000 acres of a no-construction ecologically-fragile floodplain for the venue. What mattered was an explosion of India’s soft power, colour and glitz.

A spartan attitude will not help us..At time we have show case our culture to show our standing! I remember Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathy Swamigal organized a similar conference in 1982 in Chennai and lacs of people converged on Mount Road! It made me a proud Hindu!!

What surprised me maximum was how 35000 performers could be accommodated in delhi for the event. Many had made it to delhi from far off places in kerala and

karnataka. I understand many moved into dicey hotels in paharganj and stayed in relatives homes . Many who could not get into any place stayed at the venue of the

event braving the weather. Spectatators had to walk in slush over a kilometre from main road and many mixed up the gates for entry. Most cars could not parking

space with arrangement only for 300 cars. Others had to leave the cars just on the roadsides adding to the traffic mess . Many got stuck in traffic jams reaching their

destination after few hours.Luckily the expected lakhs of spectators did not turn up . Some who witnessed the event must have enjoyed it , not withstanding the

inconvenience associated with it..

The colours and dances were delightful. I did not know indian classical music could lend itself to good orchestration with thousands of players. The kathak directed by

Birju maharaj , bharat natyam directed by Saroja vaidyanathan , mohiniattam and kathak with thousands of participants were good. These performers jointly practised

together only for a day or so before the event, .

Power short circuit in some areas of the stadium luckily did not cause any mishaps. But the grandeur got a little reduced .

Only one religeous TV channel MH one relayed it full . Other it was only in parts. An evening well spent watching and enjoying something indian and different

The second day events scheduled for today has men of religion from all faiths participating. let us see how it turns out.

Rain has given an advance warning. The sky is overcast again with mild showers in the morning.

luckily many offices and banks are closed today.

Let us see if the arrangements are better today.

Most of the people around the world have admiration for certain type of people - godmen, politicians, sportsmen/women, film personalities, musicians etc.; but their role in bringing prosperity to people is terribly low.

People have scant respect for scientists, social reformers who play major role in shaping the life style of people.

By organizing such an event in Delhi, what is the godman going to achieve, except publicity?

We may expect similar events in other parts of India either by Godmen or politicians.

In Chennai, the Smartha Bhagavathas may organize such an event for sheer publicity.

Another day of AOP festival on march 12.

This time, weather gods spared the event almost upto the end of the day.

Usual veda parayana and orchestra of AOL belting out a few more numbers. One set to raag pilu was good . Another was the song vasudeiva kudumbakam at the end.

Today , it was a show of strength by AOL by demonstrating its reach all over the world.

The holy persons Sri Ravishankar could rope in incuded jyothir math sankaracharya, Grand mufti from syria, a cleric from pakisthan, bishop from vatican representing

the Pope and a coloured bishop from US.All talked about the unity and glory of religion and showered praise on Sri Ravishankar.

Politicians of BJP in full attendance -Sushma swaraj, Rajnath sing, CMs of MP and chattisgarh. Sushma swaraj confidently carried herself and made a decent speech .

The cultural events included shaolin dancers from taiwan, strange types from chattisgarh who looked like tribals.

I could see many of the events as no channel broadcast it in full. The crowd in the venue was not much, though admission was free. Most probably thought there were

better ways of spending a saturday. Most TV channels did not give it much importance as Mallya and R.Rajan were favourites .
