[h=1]Apple is working on paid-subscription support for the News App[/h] January 26, 2016 Kishore Ganesh Leave a comment Edit
When Apple announced the News App last year, it was met with a mix of excitement and boredom. The publishers were excited because it could prove to be a major source of traffic, and they could grab more eyeballs, while the consumers were tired of yet another news aggregation application.
Till now, there has been no clear plans of monetization, but according to a report by Reuters, Apple is working in paid-subscription support.
Of course, many publishers are criticizing Apple for not sharing much audience data, and then there’s the fact that publishers are so strapped for revenue that they are hugely dependent on outside parties like Facebook and Apple. These companies are becoming gatekeepers, and with their immense scale, they can easily coerce publishers into operating by their terms.
