I doubt my kolu-patti and thatha, who are averse to such things, would "propagate" that. Why are you so adamant to make Sanatana Dharmam a cult-like religion such as that of the book?

Does this not go against your previous stance, as is attached below?

If we are to go by the latter view, then as a Srauta-Smarta brahmanas, we value Adi Shankaracharya's words, and many of us practice the Sattvic left-hand path, but our ultimate loyalty remains to the Vedas. All "true" smarta brahmnas are Srauta-Smartas and belong to a particular sect; However, over time, the "smarta" tradition has become more popular among all iyer sects with the loss of veda parayanam (by the way, this is not coming from me but the perivas themselves; go ask them if you do not believe me).

My point in bringing this up is that you understand that nothing is stagnant. Gurus and the sampradaya keep changing, so do not fret over it so much. I would, in fact, urge you to widen your scope of knowledge and understand other schools even if you do not agree with them (this does not mean leaving Shankaracharya and affiliated practices but rather just reading up about the different schools of thought, including Advaita pre-Shankaracharya).

Yes, it is my fault for not quoting the verse. I have attached a link to the translation for your perusal. As you can clearly see, it is not my own translation.

Misc. Contentions:

  1. I feel that you have glazed over my question on what an "authoritative" smriti looks like and who gives one the "authority"? Furthermore, does this mean you do not recognise the earlier rishis and contemporaries like Ramana Maharishi?
  2. There is no "single" form of worship. That is but a modern construct with the advent of splitting the Vadama sect and then Ramanujacharya forming the Sri Vaishnavas. In fact, the very Advaita sampradaya you belong to says that Brahman exists in so and so forms, and you may worship Brahman as forms of Vishnu, Shiva, Devi, Aditya and Ganesha (with the inclusion of Murgan in many households, though per my knowledge, he is not seen as the divine 5).
  3. In many similar households to mine, I have seen people start with Ramanujacharya's Visistadvaita to understand Advaita. It is used as a stepping stone, I suppose. I have seen Sri Vaishnava's do the opposite as well. This goes against the idea that you can have only one guru per sampradaya and goes against the factum that the reason the different sampradayas exist is because of understanding the Shruti's through different points of view and discussing it as well as understanding the intent.
  4. I have seen you mention astika multiple times and am curious about what a proper astika looks like to you.
