Who is a proper Astika? One who follows the rules of his or her particular sampradaya according to elders of the family. One who believes scrupulously in Vedas and the smritis & texts interpreted according to his or her sampradaya.

Coming to other contemporaries to Mahaperiyava - I already said, as an Advaiti Smarta, the words of Adi Shankaracharya & Mahaperiyava are most important for me. I am not very knowledgable regarding Ramana Maharishi. I will not follow Vivekananda or Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada as they said things contradicting the words of Mahaperiyava and the elders of my family. I suggest others do the same.

The problem today is the word "Hindu". It groups those following Shastras with with people like Mool Charan although I think the philosophy and believes of Arya Samaj are illogical. It groups those who study Vedas and become Ghanapathis with any old guys with long beards who is called a "Swami" and attatches "Nanda" to his name. I will never consider such people the same religion as Ghanapathis or those who follow Shastras. Hence, I am very clear on who to follow and who not to. Get rid of this fake label "Hindu". Then scrupulously accept your sampradaya and the acharyas regarded authoritative in your sampradaya.

If you do not agree do not follow - I have not written this to convince those will not agree. I already said, many Astikas get misled by people such as Vivekananda and today every guy with kumkum and a large beard is somehow considered a "Hindu Guru" such as Jaggi. If you want, follow such guys, you have the freedom.
