Ask yourself, if your conscience will permit and if you can live with yourself. If the answer is yes, go right ahead. We all set our own boundaries, and just have to be honest with ourselves. The policeman is within us, not imposed. Kanchi mahaperiyavals recommend and suggest what would help all of us, but its upto us to follow or not. Mahaperiyaval gave darshan even to a murderer once. God is always merciful and forgiving, but your Karma will determine the impact to you. Again, that is if you even believe in this concept. This is personal and everyone will have their own limits on what is permissible. We have varying degrees of Brahminism.
