Today's news in TOI made me feel that some seniors (in fact super senior in this case) take undue risks and get into trouble.

The news is this: A super senior aged 83, who went out for a walk in the wee hours yesterday was attacked by two men and was

robbed of her diamond studs worth nearly three lakh rupees. She was lying on the ground, injured on her chin and earlobes.

Where is the necessity to take a walk at the odd time, alone, wearing costly jewels, when days are so bad? I pity her but at the

same time wonder why she was so crazy! What a bed event on the new year's eve!

When I write something good about senior resorts, some members write about losing freedom etc and don't support the idea.

Why did she and her husband buy a house and moved in, after spending some time in a senior resort? Very sad!

Any comments from members?

One can live anywhere but one can take simple precautions.

Taking roads not frequented by many at odd times is stupid.

In delhi, senior citizen lock themselves in at night fall and are strict about not going out.

wearing expensive jewellery is not desirable unless it is a wedding or some such occassion.

It is wise to take some strong person along who can put up a resistance in the event of chain snatching.

It is NOT 'Beware OF senior citizens', Mohan Sir!

I just wanted to make the members curious! :)
BTW, some youngsters :bolt: on seeing some seniors! :violin:

Dear Krish Sir,

Seniors have more peace at the resorts because many provide walking tracks.

And, no trespasser will attack the seniors. That is my point.

As Mohan Sir has pointed out, jewels are dear to ladies even is they are super seniors!

Raji Ramji.

It is segregation on basis of agein senior homes I cannot accept.

Add to it the concept that seniors should spend their time doing bhajans and religeous activities.

These high caste homes meant for deserted parents of foreign indians in places like coimbotore are no better than jails

with facilities.

Seniors should stay integrated with society at large and not behave or get treated as outcastes.

Getting attacked is a rare event.

It happens even to women of all age groups in unfrequented roads.

they do not give up .

They protest for their legitimate right to live safely in all places.

Seniors can do the same and not take it lying down.

Krish Sir,

Senior are more vulnerable compared to youngsters...If you cannot walk freely at dawn, the place is not safe....A resort is far better as safety is assured..As we grow old safety should be prime concern..Also your suggestion to have a hardy and rugged youngster as an accompaniment is not possible as the elders are living alone in many cases

vulnerability is i the mind.

I walk in wintry cold mornings in delhi without a care .

of course, I take precautions . like fully clad for winter, a stick to drive monkeys than humans,

I greet many unknown persons of all age groups and get greeted in return.

If I miss my daily time, the regulars ask me where I was yesterday.

many youngster will accompany us if we have something to offer them other than advise.

I am never starved for company.

I have a lively circle from all walks of life.

The trick is to be not judgemental of anyone.then most will open up and seek our company.

most are wallowing in self pity saying they are alone.

one is as alone as they decide to be.

For old men walking is safe in Delhi especially in gated colonies and high rise societies....Yes in Delhi women do not wear much jewellery....Chennai too is safe if you are in a gated colony with security..The new societies provide these facilities..

My comment is based on security while yours is based on freedom to live the way one wants!

The timing chosen & also the route chosen by the older people should be such that it does not give even remote chances for the miscreants to target you. As Mr KK has mentioned say hello to decent persons you may be familiar on the route followed regularly, so that you gain confidence & most importantly avoid going beyond a certain time,,,which you could know after a few months If possible go with another person as it is said that one mean Lonliness, @ means Company

Sing Chennai roads are mostly horrible and crazy with unruly traffic.

Ram and I choose our roof terrace rather than the nearby roads, for our evening walk!

Dear Raji Madam,

Is it not boring to circumambulate the terrace...I guess after 1-2 rounds you will feel boring unless you have a palatial terrace?

When we are in a cruise ship, we generally walk 10-12 round around the deck (1/4 mile track).

Dear Ganesh,

It is about 50 feet in length and 30 feet in width and located on a very wide road with busy traffic!

Hence not at all boring. :)

I make it a point to walk on an imaginary 8. 'ettup pOttA nalladhAm'! :D

All places are safe; as also all places are vulnerable.

One have to have at least a minimum awareness about the environment and sense of precautions ever embedded in mind.

It is very sad to hear this, we have to respect our elders and their safety . Remember, what we are today is only because of there sacrifices.

Youngsters think you too will become old one day.

Parents please teach your kids to respect from the young age. Our culture is in a very bad shape. We all together has to correct it.

Very good decision, though Krish Sir might not agree to this view!
One requires to do some body building and develop muscles besides brash talk like locals to survive in delhi.

It is not for the weak hearted .

Good delhi has to offer far out weigh the negatives.
