Beware, that BSNL man at your door could be fake

CHENNAI: The next time a man claiming to be a BSNL representative visits your home, insist on seeing his official ID card. He could be an impostor.

Instances of locally manufactured devices and modems being thrust on unsuspecting buyers by "official BSNL representatives" have come to light. Some victims were promised rental discounts under the "senior citizens category" or a refund of their telephone deposit.

BSNL, in a press release, clarified that it had not authorised its employees to do such campaigning and said all employees, when they visited customers' residences, would carry identity cards that can be verified.

"Customers are requested to verify the authenticity of the person before paying for any services or purchases," the release said. "In case there is any doubt, customers are requested to inform the nearest BSNL authorities so that the issue can be taken up with the law enforcing authorities," it added.

A senior BSNL official said they were looking into complaints about people misusing the service provider's name to provide various services, including replacing old instruments, modems and other accessories.

"In some cases, the customers were sold modems which were locally manufactured and not a BSNL-approved brand. Only after the modem stops working do the customers call up BSNL and realise that they have been conned," said the official. He said such 'official BSNL representatives' collected cash as well as copies of identity proof documents such as ration cards from customers.

With the number of private service providers in the market it is becoming difficult for the customer to verify their authenticity.

the post is very interesting

BSNL/MTNL provide networking communication items whose capablities do not fully help the user to exploit the full

potential of powerful processors

private players know how to marry their items consisting of powerful modem and networking routers for both wire

connected and wireless to link many PCs, laptops and ipads etc. I have tried using them for 3 large Desktops one

most recent, two of them 3 to 5 years old ,2 laptops and ipads in three different rooms of my flat All are built around

MTNL connection for reasons economic. The brains for this project are my 2 children with their spouses whose

combined wisdom has gone into it. my job is to play with all this technology and become a little more computer

literate.lol

Guys can make fake id too!

This is my experience with a man who said he is sent by Indane gas company to give free gas lighter and pest repeller to each house.

Then came the trap! These free items will be given ONLY if a magnet, resembling a mini gas cylinder, is bought for Rs. 350/ This magnet

is supposed to increase the number of hours of LPG usage by 25%. Usually I don't encourage such sellers but since three items for that

money sounded OK, I bought. The gas lighter worked for six months and the pest repeller keeps away rodents and rats from our garden.

(mosquitoes are safe and sound!) The number of hours of LPG usage seems to have increased by about 10%.

But the real Indane guy who comes to replace new gas cylinder said that the company did not send anyone for such a program! In fact,

he laughed at the magnet attachment on the LPG tube! The beauty is that the guy who sold the item showed his id card for proof!! :dizzy:

Similar incident with me. The Private dealer supplied Modem DIGISOL model DG-BG4100NU Wireless ADSL2/2+Broadband router with US Port. I talked to BSNL. They told that BSNL does not supply Modems & they told me that if they buy this Model they will sell for Rs 2400/- I told them that I paid Rs 2600/- because the dealer has given warranty & service for 3 years. Then ofcouse after conversing with the company chief , I could establish rapport & not unhappy because BSNL is not offering full service & this caution has come a day late ?
I fully endorse that al of us should develope the habit of enquiring such Guys initially, itself not to regret later. One thing is for sure All said & done we, Brahmins tend to get carried away by the talk of the person knocking at tha door bell .
After reading the postings above we 3 or 4 sail in the same boat on such incidents, I feel as to why not try to be friends , if all are in Chennai. Try ?

Raji Madam

One lady visited my apartment last week with the same items .She did show her ID and it was the company ID for which she was working for but told it compliments our LPG Use .I politely declined to use as 2 years back another person in my absence ( only my mother was present and she fell for this ) installed that Gas Saver .We are actually conscious in saving Gas and we do not know what role the Gas saver played in helping us save Gas. Indane gives some useful tips as to how to save Gas and it is enough if we follow them wisely .
I am not saying that these people are cheats but they do a very smart marketing to push their products on us and use INDANE and BSNL customers to push their products .

Dear Krishna,

I am not sorry because the gas lighter worked for a few months, the pest repeller is still working and the magnet seems to extend

the LPG usage by a few days; or is it my imagination, since I have started oat meal for breakfast for four days a week.? :)

P.S: If the LPG tube is rubber, I don't think the magnet will work!

Actually it is very easy to find out if the guy is really from BSNL or not.

Ask him a couple of technical questions, if he answers them well enough, he is surely not from BSNL. If he stares back at you, mumbles something or gives (lame) excuses, be happy, for that is your BSNL man ! :-)

Raji Madam

None of the products supplied to you - the gas lighter , the pest repeller and the gas saver magnet is waste .They definitely add value to your kitchen only that we feel bad when we are tricked to buying the same but then that is what marketing is about . Yes true the gas saver does not work on old Green rubber tubes and works on the new sturdy orange gas tubes .

We can follow some simple steps to save Gas at least by 10% is we adopt some simple disciplines while cooking .The Gas saver can complement it .

Dear Krishna,

I have made my cooking very simple. I always use pressure cooker, even to cook veNdaikkAy (takes only one minute!), to save gas.
