There are reports to say that much water is wasted by flowing into the sea and there are reports about failure of monsoon and resultant water crisis and there are judgments about sharing of water from the rivers that flows through States. What is the truth…? Where is the solution….?

Cauvery dispute: As SC asks Karnataka to 'live and let live', what's at the root of this fight?

A good monsoon may be unpredictable. But the fallout of a bad monsoon isn’t, at least in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

When the rains fail in the two states, this is what happens, more often than not: There would be little water in the Cauvery.

Crops whither and farmers suffer. Then Tamil Nadu demands that Karnataka, the upstream state, should let go of some water, instead of holding on to it. Karnataka demurs. Where is the water to release, it asks. Then comes abandh or two in Tamil Nadu over Karnataka’s rejection. And it kicks up protests in Karnataka against the possibility of the state giving away water. Tamil Nadu rushes to the Supreme Court.

That’s what happened once again in the last 10 days. And that’s how once again the Supreme Court came entered the scene on Friday.

K'taka special session: Likely to release 'some' Cauvery water, may tweak stand to evade contempt of court

Karnataka is reported to release some water to help the farmers in both the states

The Karnataka special legislature session on Monday is likely to pass a modified resolution to not release Cauvery water to its neighbouring state Tamil Nadu.

However, according to reports, the session is likely to reiterate its earlier resolution expressing difficulty in releasing water, but will release "some water" to help the farmers along the Cauvery basin.
