Centre's report states floods could have been avoided, DMK asks CM to take responsibility

DMK wants a proper inquiry as to what happened.

Following the Centre's observation that the Chennai floods could have been avoided by the state government, DMK on Tuesday asked for an enquiry into the matter and also asked CM Jayalalithaa to take responsibility.

Recently, an analysis by the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences revealed that the floods in Chennai were because of poor drainage systems and heavy rains.

The report also states that the ministry had informed the state government about heavy rainfall 48 hours earlier.

The study by officials and scientists says that the floods could have been avoided if the Tamil Nadu government was quick to act against the disaster.

[h=1]'MoES Report on TN Floods Doesn't Exist'[/h]
By Express News Service
Published: 05th February 2016

CHENNAI: Clarifying that the alleged report prepared by the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences on the recent floods in Tamil Nadu does not exist, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary K Gnanadesikan on Thursday said that MoES had conveyed to the State government vide its letter dated February 3 that “no such report exists as claimed to have been prepared by the Ministry on recent Tamil Nadu floods.”
Referring to a report that appeared in a newspaper, the Chief Secretary said the report was totally baseless and false. The Chief Secretary in his statement on December 13, explained that floods in Chennai on December 1, 2015 was a rarest of rare natural calamity and were not caused by any failure in the management of water releases.
“In fact, Government of Tamil Nadu’s handling of the rescue, relief, restoration and rehabilitation operations in the wake of the unprecedented rains and floods in November and December, 2015 has come in for widespread acclaim and appreciation”, he added.
“The letter from MoES has said that the Ministry fully disowns the inferences articulated in the news item.
A copy of the letter is attached for reference”, the Chief Secretary further said.

If the Chief Secretary is so confident, the Government can sue the media concerned for publication of such a report which is termed as baseless.
.

Will the Government do that?

This Government already has the credit of filing more cases against media and others.

TN Govt. will not file any defamation case in this regard.
In court, everything will be grunt / making a sound and as it would amount to set a suicide trap on its own.

I agree.

DMK cannot ask AIADMK to explain / or own responsibility for the debacle. For the past three decades, both DMK & AIADMK have abused power, allowed encroachers to build houses, shops etc close to or on the waterways, narrowing the flow of water and drainage. This noise by DMK may enthuse few voters - but they have lot to explain the public of Tamil Nadu - permitting Methane project in Nagapattinam district, Laying of pipe line by GAIL and trying to hide / plead innocent. Both parties match with each other with AIADMK fairing better in administrative capabilities.

DMK could not ask AIADMK; so also AIADMK could not ask DMK.

Both are sailing on the same boat as far as corruption is concerned.
DMK invented scientific corruption; AIADMK improved it.

But general public can ask.

For getting majority and to taste the victory, the Parties are ready to change their ideology and policies. Change in their activity is inevitable

For doom sayers and naysayers, sky is the limit for their predictions. They won't change.

It never stops: One more defamation case by Jaya govt, this time against Economic Times

Revenue minister R.B Udayakumar has filed a defamation case.

The saga of defamation cases by Tamil Nadu government continues. But this time, it is not the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who has filed the defamation case, instead it is revenue minister R.B Udayakumar who has filed a complaint against The Economic Times for the article, “TN response to flood was slow, says central report”.

On behalf of the revenue minister, the city public prosecutor M L Jegan filed the petition against ET reporter, editor P.V.Karthik Subbaraman and S.Santhanagopal, printer and publisher of The Economic Times.

The article, "TN response to flood was slow, says central report" was published on February 2, 2016. A statement clarifying that the Economic Times article is “totally baseless and false,” was issued by the Chief Secretary on February 4, 2016.
