Chennai Express smashes 3 idiots record

I did not want to put up a discussion on Hindi Cinema in our Forum's website

Very recently when Dr Madam had asked who was Thangabali (Villain in Chennai Express) we got a very insipid Thangabalu (Ex TN Congress President) as response in this Forum

This movie is around the Hero Shahrukh Khan meeting a Tamil lass Deepika Padukone when he boarded a train to Chennai on way to Rameswaram to immerse his grandpa's ashes

Rest is the story...At many places Tamil dialogues are freely used without any sub titles

Except for Shahrukh showing some faces to the Tamil villains (which at best we can ignore) the movie is packed with entertainment...

Foot tapping music, rustic village charm, eye catching visuals...A wholesome family entertainer for the young and old

We can see our Tamil stars in plenty right from Satya Raj, Priya Mani, Delhi Ganesh, Dwarf King Kong (Thavakalai) and Mohan Raman

The film has grossed the fastest 100 crore and 200 crores..Now it has overtaken 3 Idiots which is no longer the top earning film in India, a record it held for four years. That honour now goes to Chennai Express, which has collected Rs 202.67 crores, speeding past 3 Idiots' Rs 202.47 crores and the film has just commenced 2 weeks back.

Did you watch the movie...

Yes - a simple entertainment - no need for any logical thinking or brainstorming. Just go and enjoy the bright colour dresses, good visuals, a beautiful Deepika and everloving SRK !!

Venkat K

The only tragic part was that SRK and Mukesh Tiwari (sardar policeman) spoke better Tamil than Deepika, whereas she was supposed to be playing a Tamil character! I wonder what was the need for her to use her own voice and not have her Tamil dialogues dubbed at the very least, so it would at least sound like a Tamil girl's!

Deepika's tamil has a lot of Malayalam/Tulu vaadai

Dearr Vgane Ji,

Yes I watched the movie in India....I enjoyed the movie so much that I am keeping the tickets(clients portion) with me as a remembrance.

Nice..Deepika is so so pretty. She looked so so beautiful..I like how she spoke Tamil it is so Tullu in accent..good to know she made an attempt to speak Tamil.

Since there were no subtitles so others in Blore cinema were not laughing too much at the Tamil dialogue and I was one of the few who was laughing non stop.

Then we have Sathya Raj and also Thangabali!LOL

Songs were really nice too..Priyamani looked hot! (much better than her homely cousin!LOL)

SRK as usual is just KING KHAN.

My favorite song is...

Chennai Express

Kudos to the producer and director for selling a Masala Movie without Story, just on the strength of his actors Shahruk Khan and Deepika. "Singam" Rohit Shetty has succeeded fully in his attempt. Out door photography is superb. The editor ties-up the audience with expectation. Children enjoyed the movie better than the adults !

Making an attempt is all very well. But I just couldn't even feel she was a Tamil girl whenever she opened her mouth! Priyamani should have been more utilised IMHO rather than just playing an item girl. Oh well Bolly films eh?! don't think just enjoy... lol

Not for me. I'm with Raji mami wrt SRK. I think there are many other better looking, better acting stars in Bollyland. SRK is a has been or soon to be anyway :D

The commercial success of CE is more to do with some clever branding...There were various Corporate groups that promoted the movie

The trailers that were strategically launched created an aura of excitement

There were regional pre launch meets, special promotional lungi dance, game shows, TV chat shows & fashion shows preceding this

I think with big money going into films you will have more of this tamasha

Watched the movie... Keep your brains aside and watch - but that's what entertainment is for, isn't it?
Rohit shetty used various state backdrops and called them part of TN, which was a put off but nonetheless keeping the camera moving helped suppress it.
The broken hindi and broken tamil, instead of adding weight to the story, made it a fun watch [unintended from the crew though!]

Dear Amala,

If the actor is around our own age we "connect" better.
You see SRK is just a few year older than me..so around my age.

I was a young adult in college when I started watching his movies..so you see my movie mind sailed through adulthood with SRK on screen..from Baazigar to Chennai express...so that is why I am so fond of him..with the much older or younger actors I just cant "connect".

Dear Sri Kunjuppu,

Oh yes, if a movie makes me forget myself for about 150 minutes and enjoy the make believe world of imposibilities, then I have to thank all those involved in giving me that break. Though "Deepika" is taller for an average Tamil lass, her rendering of Tulu-Tamil and the bursting laughter endered me much. Ofcourse the great Khan is my favourite actor.
Regards,
Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.
