While this is a welcome one, bringing other castes people, especially Dalits, may bring at least some sort of unity among Hindus. If this is made exclusive to one community, treating others as not eligible, this will send a wrong message to the Hindus more particularly to the people who are stamped as low caste Hindus.

The prime objective should be to unite Hindus thru equality.

It is not the question of equality. Vedas can not be learnt from books or cd. The 'PadaSala' is an ancient tradition just like Ayyappa trustees who govern due to ancestral rights. Here inheritance or genetic makeup make them for Spelling Correctly and the sound, phonetics are more important than the words.Unless one has rapt attention, concentration and inclination to learn patiently, this can not be done and it will create bad vibrations only if spelt incorrectly. Therefore even not all brahmins are not admitted but only a select few who have the correct attitude and aptitude

We hear such news on & off! It will require a huge change in mindset! The process of change is slow but may happen in future!!

Congress leader Janardhan Poojary with the women priests at Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha temple in Mangalore

Mangalore: Last year he appointed widows as archaks of Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha temple and this year Congress leader Janardhan Poojary has gone a step further and inducted Dalit women as its priests. The move is bold as Dalits are still not allowed to enter some temples or localities dominated by the upper castes. The two new archaks, Lakshmi, 65, from Chilimbi and Chandravathi, 45, from Ullal, who were trained to perform pooja, entered the temple and offered pooja to Lord Gokarnanatha and other deities on Monday.Readying to take the backlash, Mr Poojary told reporters,"Dalits too are children of God and have the right to offer pooja. This is the message we want to send out by appointing the two women."
