Confirmation needed: Shradham along with Ganesha Festival, can it be done?

My Grand Father died on 7/9/1986, the day of Ganesha Festival. All these years my parents were performing the ceremony either conventionally or 'Iranya Sratham' depending on vadiyar's availability. His name is Gnapathy Sharma. As directed by our vadiyar we buy the 'Ganesha Idol' after they left(Pitru), before we sit for lunch and do the simple Pooja. Here many people object for this with different views.

Kindly help us to clarify and guide for future observance.

After shradham is over every brahmin ( must have panchayathna pooja)must do panchayathna pooja and then only they have to take lunch..As per our dharma sasthram..You can do ganesha pooja after srardham is over and then take lunch;

Request them to show you the written dharma sasthram for their objection.

Generally the Vathiar says what he has learnt by practice.If you ask for authentication they will simply leave it to your desition. The vathiars of present day took to this job not with krama adhyayanam or full practical training under any knowledgeable guru.In the padasalai only vedham vedhangam etc.are taught even if it is for a full term of 14 years.But proyagam is learnt from a practising Vathiyar only. So one may not expect answer for complicated situation. If you are really to go by the Dharma sastras you can refer to books available nowadays.In the gruhya suthra by RISHI HIRANYAKESI WHICH IS CONSIDERED TO BE HIGHLY ELOBORATE it is stated thus "when you have any doubt about performing the rituals do follow the path of your fore fathers"

sir Here what the vadhyar said is correct, and the vadhyar used to consult first the elderly senior ganabadigal and those who were well versed in dharma sastras, then only vadhyar will say what to do. but here many people are objecting, so i am asking the people who are objecting to this "request those people to kindly show to you the dharma sastra chapter" and page no. to you. As per dharma sastra what you are doing is perfectly correct and you can show to them the chapter and page no. to them.
