If there is one pattar with a name recognition throughout India, I would place my bet on Vidya.

As a fellow pattar, and (probably) related one too, I think, I would like to record her, our heartfelt congrats on her marriage. That she is following the norms of a good number of tambram girls, and opting to marry out of caste and community, but within religion, should be noted. I guess, the path of love, does not heed the ancient strictures re cross pollination :)

I saw her first film Parineeta about 5 years after it was released, and I was struck. Saw it 4 times within a month, and since then, have been a faithful fan, through thick and thin. (both career and weight).

My #1 favourite is Kahaani, closely followed by Ishqiya. In both these movies, she showed a depth and gave new definition to modern Indian woman - whether it be a sophisiticated city brought up one, or a rural villager. While she towered over her male casts in Kahani, in Ishqiya, she had to duel with two veterans, and not only stood on her own, but excelled over them on many a scene.

I have friends here who were her neighbours, and whose house she used to pop in and out in Mumbai. She was just the girl next door, but today, I say, 'What a girl'!!!!

Vidya identifies herself with PETA, that stronghold of militant vegetarianism, in the West, though in India, I think they are of a far milder sort. Her favourites I hear, are கீரை மொளகூட்டல் accomapnied with புளி பச்சடி & இஞ்சிபுளி. mrs K is ofcourse a chef par excellence. Next time Vidya visits Toronto, she will have her favourite pattar food - delivered to her hotel by moi :)

Here's once again, best wishes dear lady, for a long, happy, contented, healthy and fulfilling life.

God Bless.

I wish VB best wishes for both her upcoming wedding and film which i can't wait to see Ganchakkar.
My only apprehension is the affable (and wealthy!) Mr Kapoor's past track record. I pray for VB that this will be his last wedding :).

I have nothing against VB, and her marriage. Congratulations to the couple.

But is is "OK" to break all traditions, and marry a guy with 2 ex-wife? Why do all Patters do this, Vijantimala, and Hema also did that. LOL

Marrying a North Indian non-pattar in South Indian style. This happens every where and it only means that neither is respected.

I always feel slightly uncomfy using the word pattar not being one myself. Is it not a little derogatory? I always end up pronouncing it as பத்தர். Just comes naturally, although i suspect its actually பட்டர் ? Sorry for the off topic in advance!

amala,

said by a non pattar, it can be read as deragatory, its level of poison, depending on the giver & receiver, and the intent. i guess.

coming from me, it is a self effacing (!) address to our community. i am not sure i meant it to be deragatory. but who knows? :)

only God.

How is it South Indian style? Is Sangeet and Mehendi ceremony South Indian style? Or is the big gob of sindoor on her forehead? That is the mark of marriage that mostly NIs men like to put on their mates.

That is the new fashion by SIs. Or is it confused Indian style? There is nothing wrong in either styles. It befits the respective community. Mehendi is NI, VB 's marudhaani is SI style. Well all marriages have been always performed in confusion. All is well.

Congratulations Vidya once again for winning the filmfare award for best actor (female) for Kahaani, as I knew she would. Shes on a roll! I guess this must be her best wedding present ever?! :D

I wonder if she is related to a Pattar female member who used to be a member here before.

She certainly looks a lot like that member..sweet demure homely looks.

i have noticed since the wedding, vidya, in south indian style, has a regular pottu sized pottu, just above her nethi. unlike the north indian practice of smearing red vermillion right through the hair parting.

though i always had a fondness for the latter, in vidya, the red dot indicating marriagehood looks cute.

:)
