I had a problem in charging my Lumia Smart phone bought recently and took it to their custmer Care center - Left the phone for check up and asked to come back again next day - Next day advised to wait for 10 days since they donot have stock of the required spare and they have to get from Microsoft and it would cost Rs850 After 10 day I was told they have no response to the order placed with Microsoft! Ironically a steet corner service centre could do that in 15 minutes for Rs 200. He changed the socket or the port where you plug in your charger Microsoft Service centre told me the problem is electronic and I had to pay them their consultation charges to inform me that they have no spares!

Indian street corner jugaads are far more economical and effective than service centres.

I have got imported high cost foreign swiss watch fixed by a local repair fellow for 10rs who said the defective part could be replaced by a Timex part and did the same

in five minutes

It is best to get PCs , mobiles other electronics fixed by small shop technicians who are far better than company authorised maintenance depot.

I have got Samsung ACs ,Daewoo frig fixed similarly by local mechanics who had floated their repair shops after working in these companies for sometime.

once the initial warranty is over no sense in chasing the large companies for service.

I used to drop my E71 Nokia phone very frequently..For every repair I used to shell out Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 at Nokia service centers ...They were charging exhorbitant prices..Subsequently I got a Black berry for close to 4 years...I would have spent atleast Rs 8k for services (mainly charging socket related) for a phone costing 10K

Now I have gone to a Moto G phone...Fortunately not a single penny has been spent in last 1 year.

This is differenent - I approached V guard customer care for a small problem with their Voltage stabilizer Their answer they wont be able to serve since the model is withdrawn and no spares (Relays) with them and advised to purchase a new one! But this was rectified by street corner shop for 200 rupees in a day! and it is working well for the past 8 months

Yeah..A service center has certain overhead that is mandated by the contract with the OEM...They will ask for a particular space and ambience..This entails cost..Also a particular qualification for the person rendering the service...A road side mechanic is certified by his customers..They go only by his skill not his qualifications...So it gets cheaper
