I am reminded of Coimbatore Oppanakkara street, where the North Indians spread the ten thousand wallh crackers
on that long road and burst them for nearly five minutes non-stop!!:bump2: . . . :boom:

During late evening all the business people in Mumbai celebrate deepavali, Lakshmi Pooja and their new year with crackers - more the sound more prosperity. Even there are "One Lakh wala" crackers available in Mumbai. Deepavali evenings are worth watching in Mumbai as compared to other cities.

Dear Raghy
Happy Deepavali
We enjoy Deepavali only when we are young kids; now i am in a far off place , Wales/UK with my daughter's family
My grand children here never experienced real deepavali; My other grand children who are in US have never enjoyed Deepavali the way we did when we were kids.

I agree I had sooo much fun bursting fire crackers all different types and also playing with sparklers as a child. My mum would simply buy loads and loads and we all would play in our garden or friend's homes.

Dear Raghy Sir,

GM... This year it was Thalai Deepavali at my house and the crackers were burst in the evvening only. Few crackers were blasted in the morning for the sake of tradition..Early morning bath, new dresses, and deepavali legiyam from grand mom, then endless hours of crackers till the sun rises in all glory ... were the days of past... This time i noticed that the youth of Mylapore came out only after nine ot ten in the morning and few mingled in groups and showed of their new dresses and some had new bikes.. burst few crackers and disbursed. Only in the evening the sky was lit with thousands of colourful rockets, flowerpots, and 1000 walas and lakshmi bombs etc.

Getting up late in the morning has become a habit and the younger generation does not want to miss out on the wonderful sleep for anything!! I was awake at 430 and the street was empty except for few milk vendors !!!!
Hopefully i did not hear major accidents or fire accidents due to the crackers or rockets falling on roofs etc. Hope your deepavali( thalai deepavali!!) went off well!!

Cheers.

This time Deepawali for South Indians fell on the same day as it is for North Indians....In South we have the tradition of Narhasura Jayanthi with oil bath before dawn...In our society in Gurgaon we burst fire crackers early in the morning...This was followed by the gala celebrations in the evening when fireworks lit up the sky...It was a display of pomp and grandeur...Bright earthen lamps filled the balconies of residents...There were bright and brilliant serial lights in resplendent colors hanging all around...The whole society was brightly lit by luminous bulbs....Colorful rangolis greeted the entrances of the flats

WOW! Should have been a great experience! In a few Tambram house, they have a good stock of

'Ganga Jalam' in plastic bottles and they sprinkle it on themselves after bath - 'Ganga snAnam'. :thumb:

Come Diwali you see zealots of anti-noise pollution. It is a festival meant to be enjoyed in all its glories. Bursting firecrackers is one of them. Modern India has multitudes new cars and bikes wrooming all the year round, the TV volumes (some serials are just run with the loudest "Chendai volumes - to raise TRP(?). No doubt the festival brings India into to life. Maximum number of people are maximum happy these days. Ignore the "kill-joyers"! By the way it is not "Narakasura Jayanti". He was killed and he expressed his death-wish that others should all be happy at his death. Yet he died as an "asura"? People have been compelled to wake up in the wee hours to 'oil-snaan'. Other asuras please do not harass us this way even after death.
