I am writing this post after spending deepavali in Jaipur India.
Diwali celebrations may last for up to five days. Many people decorate their home and workplaces with tiny electric lights or small clay oil lamps. Bowls of water with candles and flowers floating on the surface are also popular decorations.

Many people make a special effort to clean their homes and yards before Diwali. They may also wash themselves with water and fragrant oils, wear new clothes and give gifts of sweets to family members, close friends and business associates. Fireworks are set off in the evening in some areas. Melas (fairs) are held in many towns and villages.

People in different regions in India may celebrate Diwali on various dates. This is because traditional lunar calendars can be interpreted in different ways. For example, Deepavali in Tamil Nadu is celebrated in the Tamil month of Aipasi.

Diwali is a five day Hindu festival also known as the festival of lights. It Starts with Dhanteras first day then Choti Diwali next day then Diwali then Govardhan Puja and on the last day Bhai Duj. Diwali of Jaipur is world renowned for the way it is celebrated in Jaipur and for the Lights decoration done all around the city. Diwali is arrived from word Deepawali which means Row of Lamps (Deepak) people also call it Deepavali or Divali. Diwali is celebrated on Krishna Chaturdashi generally falls between Mid October to Mid November.

We had great time. The whole market, homes and offices were decorated. The fireworks display was out of this world. Inspite of the great awareness of environment and economy in general people were spending money generously. The gaiety and festival was contagious, and I could re-live my childhood again.

The younger generation is cutting back, in the name of pollution, and I can understand that, but I guess the fireworks and happy faces of children will be deepavali.
