hi
i heard that garlic rasam is good for delivered mother....may be our resident physician DR Renu can help u more....

I have heard babies get colic/gas pains during early years. So, mothers may have to consume fiber foods like spinach and drink plenty of liquids, IQ!
Ofcourse, there are experts in this forum, wait for their reply.

As a new mother please read up on all your needs. Talk to pediatrician and your mother and MIL that will be your best bets.
Feeding Your Newborn

Medical experts recommend breastfeeding as the best choice for newborns. Specifically, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that babies be breastfed exclusively for about the first 6 months. Following the introduction of solid foods, breastfeeding should continue through the first year of life and beyond, if desired.

Breastfeeding may not be possible or preferable for all women. Deciding to breastfeed or bottle feed a baby is usually based on the mother's comfort level with breastfeeding as well as her lifestyle, but breastfeeding may not be recommended for some mothers and babies. If you have any questions about whether to breastfeed, talk to your pediatrician.

Remember, your baby's nutritional and emotional needs will be met whether you choose to breastfeed or formula feed.

Frankly speaking medically there is not much do and dont's about diet after delivery.

Traditional beliefs sometimes even restrict fruits and certain vegetables but medically there is no such contraindication.

After I delivered(I am a vegetarian) I started eating my usual diet but I made sure my protein intake was good since a breast feeding mother needs extra protein.

My mother used to make for me Paneer and also I took curds(My MIL was jumping What!! Curds after delivery?? It will chill you and give you body pain etc)
You see that are all old wives tales..curds are fine after delivery..good source of protein.

Drink warm milk and eats lots of green vegetables(here we have lots of Chinese greens)..cos you need the fibre to ward of constipation and drinks lots of water..warm water if preferred.

Eat fruits too like apples and whatever seasonal fruits you get there.

Do not take too oily food cos then it would be hard to shed the body weight after pregnancy.
Steamed and stir fried food is easier to digest and you won't gain weight too.

If possible drink soya milk..its a good source of protein sans fat.

Make nice thick dhals that will also add to protein intake.

If the person had a normal delivery..it is advised to start exercise after 1 month of delivery..go for slow walks and slowly increase intensity as the months go by.
You can also try yoga and pilates..if you want a flat abdomen..Nauli Kriya yoga pose works wonders.

If it was a C section delivery then only exercise after 3 months.

Most important be active so that one does not gain weight after child birth.
Most Indian woman often neglect themselves after child birth and gain weight only to add to health problems later on.

Swimming is a good exercise to tone up if a person is into swimming.

I am a doctor who is very particular that my patients need to be healthy..feel good and look good.

So take my advise..eat well within limits..don't over eat...be active and once the mother is ready for exercise either after 1 month or 3 months..make sure the mother keeps fit.

Want any advise regarding exercise..ask me.I will be glad to guide.
