I have seen no. of short films like this.... Ini Tamil Mella Saagum etc.. In all these films the feelings of the parents are shown effectively..

But I have different view...

.WHO is responsible for the children to go to America & following western culture..? Parents wants their children to settle in life comfortably ..They want them to study well... take up a good job in any foreign country[ avenues are less in India as they feel..!!]...When the children are not able MEET their desired expectations..the emotional & stress aspacts for the parents takes over.. It is not only in films but it happens in many families..

Parents should understand...they can not have the cake & eat it too..

I feel it is not such a good film, like the curate's egg. Nowhere is vaidyanathan shown as religious. On the contrary he smokes. There's also no "roller coaster" thing between the boy and the grandfather. Greatness has been thrust on this mediocre film; the only thing not known is the recommendation/s which worked behind the scenes!

Dear Sangom Sir,

I know a few Iyer mAmAs who wear 'vibhoodhi pattai' in the morning and drink 'pattai charAyam' in the evening!

Many musicians who appear the most religious persons also swim in 'sOma bAnam'. I have heard that when they

fly to the foreign countries, they never miss the full load of free liquor offered in the air crafts. :dizzy:

So religious appearance is deceptive! :angel:

TVK Sir I agree with you, that is what Boy's mother says in this film.
Reservation.is probably one of the main reason for good and meritorious to move to other countries.

Sri.sangom Sir

Yes, i also felt that this short film does not deserve so many awards.

This film shows the modern day life very vividly without much of dialogues!

Father appearing as orthodox man smokes; Mami wears madisAr but sends her son abroad; Son weds a

North Indian girl; Grand son talks with AmeZhican accent; Boys born in India tease the American born kid;

Grandpa loves the kid so much that he fouls in the game; The son CAN avail one week's leave IFF needed!

I enjoyed the direction and music. Especially the scene where the kid holds the passports in a plastic pouch

and the next moment a dip tea is put into hot water! :)

Most of the Sasthrigal family Mamis wear only Madisar, they willingly send their son to US/Australia/ Singapore.
Daughters also study software and refuse to marry any Sasthrigal!!

In those days House wives used to wear only Madisar, only in later stages this 6 yards saree came.

It's all happens because of good editing.. It is not enough the director alone can create a good movie.. The sequences are to be properly decided to sustain the interest... But I do not consider this short film is delivering any mesg. at best a dramatic finish to satisfy the father and it was very un-natural..I stress un-natural because.. the short film moved initially in the right direction showing the REALITY but failed at the end.. It do not deserve any awards at all...!!

Dear T V K Sir,

May be the judges were like me! :D

Raji Madam

I bet, if your grandsons come to Chennai, and play Cricket ( by chance) you will be doing like Delhi Ganesh no balling even good deliveries!!

I wish to see that "Kan kolla Katchi".. please video it..

Appearance is deceptive!

A man appears like saint and another man asks,

'தலையில் பழனி மொட்டை;

நெற்றியில் விபூதிப் பட்டை;

கழுத்தில் ருத்திராட்சக் கொட்டை;

யார் இந்தக் குட்டைக் கட்டை?'

It is difficult to guarantee that this guy will be a real saint! :angel:

Saint Thyagaraja has sung many songs to show that external appearance does not show the goodness in men!

A few examples are:

Pallavi of 'entha nErchina entha choosina'

Anupallavi and CharaNam of 'entha muddhO entha sogasO'

ChraNam of 'theliyalEru Rama'.
