Ingredients:
--------------
1 cup Chana dhal (kadalai paruppu)
6 Green chillies
2 tbsp Somph
8 cloves Garlic
2 big Tomatoes
1 big Onion
1 tsp Mustard seeds (kadugu)
Curry leaves
1 tsp curry powder
Chillie powder
Turmeric powder
Cooking oil
Salt to taste
Make Vadas:
--------------
Soak the Chana dhal for 2 hours with 1 tbsp Somph. Grind to a coarse consistency without adding water. Make vadas just like making 'Masala vada'. For 1 cup of Chana dhal, about 12 - 13 medium sized vadas can be expected. After all the vadas are done, break them apart into tinier pieces. Set aside.
Make the curry:
------------------
Crack mustard seeds in oil. Add 1 tbsp Somph. Then add cut green chillies, cut onions, cut garlic cloves and fry till onions turn transparent. Then add cut tomatoes, and the curry leaves and fry till tomatoes are cooked. Now add about 1 1/2 cup water, then add 1 tsp curry powder, 1 tsp red chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt to taste. When the water starts boiling, add the broken down Vada pieces, mix well and leave on stove for a minute or two. Add coriander leaves if preferred.
Serve hot with dosa!
