Explosive allegations made by Adani’s own lawyer could blow lid off Tamil Nadu solar scam

Will the TN government or the TN Electricity Regulatory Commission order an investigation?

Adani group’s proposed 648MW solar power plant in Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu is in the eye of a controversy yet again, and this time, the group’s own lawyer is threatening to expose alleged regulatory and land-purchase violations by the Adani group.

In July 2015, Adani group had signed a contract with Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) to set up a solar power plant and supply power to the state at the rate of Rs. 7.01 per unit.

Recently the Adani group, in an unusual petition to the Madras High Court, sought to gag its own lawyer, Kabilan Manoharan of Ms KabiLaw Attorneys-at-law, after he threatened to publicize illegalities in the project unless his remuneration was increased. Taking cognizance of Adani group’s argument that all the information shared with Kabilan fell under attorney-client privilege, Justice KK Sasisharan of the HC ordered an interim injunction gagging the lawyer from speaking out against the client, noting that this was indeed prima facieblackmail by the lawyer.

They would order investigation provided their hands are clean in the land deal!
However anybody could file PIL in court.

Allegations were made earlier by the oppositions parties and the Tamil Nadu government was rejecting it.

Excerpts of New item:

The DMK, the Congress and the PMK have been questioning the government's rationale. The state struck a 25-year deal with the group earlier this month to purchase power at Rs 7.01 per unit from the company's proposed 648MW solar plan to come up in Ramanathapuram district. But opposition parties wondered how the group was offering power at Rs 6.04 per unit to Madhya Pradesh.

The opposition in Tamilnadu, alleges that the deal with Adani is a fraud; but TN Electricity minister Natham Viswanathan says oppositions engage with “fraud allegations”!!

Yes; To day MK has appealed to Central Govt. to initiate enquiry into the matter.

Appears the work estimated for a huge amount at the tender care of Amma without a public "Tender".
