Sad that ARR has to face the music from his own clan...We need to support him in this fatwa against him by the fundamentalists!

Decision to compose music for 'Muhammad' in good faith: Rahman

A R Rahman today sought to defuse the controversy surrounding the fatwa issued against him and Iranian director Majid Majidi over their film "Muhammad: Messenger of God", saying he composed the music "in good faith and with no intention to cause offence".

Mumbai-based Raza Academy had objected to the film and issued a fatwa against the Oscar-winner and Majidi, calling the movie against Islam.

In a long statement, posted on his Facebook page, Rahman quoted verses from the Quran to explain his point of view and the decision behind boarding Majidi's movie, which is a planned trilogy on the life of Prophet Muhammad.

"I am not a scholar of Islam. I follow the middle path and am part traditionalist and part rationalist. I live in Western and Eastern worlds and try to love all people for what they are, without judging them," Rahman wrote.

The 48-year-old music composer said he hasn't directed the movie and just did the music but he would not like to talk about his spiritual experiences of working on the film because they are very personal.

Quoting Mr Noori of the Academy, Rahman said, "My decision to compose the music for this film was made in good faith and with no intention of causing offence. In fact, the decision was based on a similar point of view expressed by Mr Noori."

Rahman said what if he "met Allah on the Judgement Day and He questioned him about not doing the movie whose intention is to unite humanity, clear misconceptions and spread my message that life is about kindness, about uplifting the poor and living in the service of humanity and not mercilessly killing innocents in my name."

What Tabras have to do with A.R. Rahman? A foolish idea that we should support him.

Kamal Hassan was flirting with the Islamists and was doing his best to ridicule Brahmins and finally got a taste of the bitter medicine from the Islamic Fundamentalists during the release of his movie Vishwaroopam . A R Rehman frustrated with Hinduism got converted to Islam and now getting a taste of Islamic Fundamentalism .

Rahman (born as Dilip Kumar) is the son of one Sekhar from the film world who died in penury (may be due to alcoholism) and his wife was given protection by a muslim. Dilip converted to Islam in gratitude to that protector gentleman and changed his name to Rahman. This is the popular version of the story.

Kamal Hassan is not an atheist. He is a Vaishnavite fanatic. He has been ridiculing only Iyers and Shaivite Gods. It requires close observation to know his attitude.

What he is and what he is not is a different topic but in his movie Vishwaroopam he made fun of Brahmins ( like Brahmin Girls eating chicken ) only to get a solid trashing from Islamic fanatics for a different reason .

ARR can be supported by us as human beings..We love his music....We can support him against Fatwa by voicing our opinion....He does not require any monetary support

The wide bracket of the "fatwa" would then encompass the hapless brahmins as well, who are already being flogged from various directions. Dont you think so?

It is surprising that there was no fatwa against Rahman (or even Javed Akhtar) when together they composed a Meera bhajan in Jodha Akbar.

Well, now it is for a film portraying mohammed; that is different from meera bhajan or hussain painting of hindu gods.

They will be hauled over the coal if they do any work on allah.

The situation here is different.

ARR is making music for a movie depicting the one of the 10 prophets and according to a certain Abrahamic school of though prophets are not supposed to be depicted in anyway becos that would encourage deification.

Its like the Nirguna concept where everything is beyond description and beyond comprehension even though in this case its almost denial if you ask me.

If ARR makes a song on any other faith that allows deification there would be NO fatwa issued against him.

Its just that as a Muslim he broke his own religious rules by being part and parcel of a movie that is depicting a prophet. The fatwa is for that reason only.
