Yesterday, I came across a funeral procession near Luz Corner in the evening while going for jogging.

Though, as usual, there were lot of flowers thrown on the road, apart from loud music, it was shocking to see that one fellow, after lighting a big cracker, threw it on the air and got busted while coming down. He had done it repeatedly. One cracker almost landed near a person on a two wheeler, who was waiting at the signal. Despite warning from the people nearby, the fellow did not care. What is worse was the traffic police (both men and women) watched this nonsense and did not do anything.

Though Tamil Nadu is not short of God-men and God-women, no one has the guts to tell people to stop this.

hi

these kind of PETTAI FUNERAL PROCESSION in singara chennai very common..even police cant do anything against them...

these are birth right of chennai pettai vaasi......

For us all events-happy or sad are occasions for celebration...When a person dies others want to give him one last party....This I guess is a Chennai tradition

Having a blast for any occasion is fine as long it does not endanger others.

There act of throwing fire crackers in the air is highly dangerous and can ignite and cause an explosion if it comes in contact with flammable material and cause a fire ball in the air.

Recently in Taiwan a concert was held where colored powder was thrown in the air at high speed and that caused it to burst in flames and a huge fire ball formed and many people died too.
The colored powder was imported from India but it become flammable when it was thrown in the air at a very high speed.

If one wants to burst fireworks..do so without throwing it in the air.

Scattering flowers and garlands on the roads, bursting crackers and 'spirited' dappAngkooththu during funeral processions and breaking

full poosaNi
on new Moon days on the roads, to endanger the two wheeler drivers, have become the necessary evils of Sing. Chennai!

Besides they also block traffic on both sides.

I think as per the existing rules, for taking out any procession in Chennai city, the law requires a written permission. On humanitarian grounds the police don’t seems to insist on such formalities.

But now a days, it is becoming a nuisance to one section of road users caused by other section of public.

Hope ‘Ambulance’ doesn’t face such traffic block.

In almost all areas of Chennai, it is happening. One or two water drums full of mixed brandy/ Saaraayam kept at the entrance of death- house for free use of visitors, fire crackers for several thousands, throwing flowers/ garlands over the road, dancing etc. are the order of the death days... and increasing day by day.
Celebrating death ? Creating public nuisance?
Govt. has to do some thing, in this regard.

hi

these men are from both main parties....THEY ARE THE VOTE BANK OF KUPPAM.....both main parties cant touch them.....this is

heritage of singara chennai.....especially all the KUPPAMS..... who will tie the bell for cat?.....

Is this a kazhagam driven phenomenon in Chennai only? How about in other cities of TN? Bengaluru? Kuala lumpur? Singapore?

It is very shameful to note that such unwanted activities normally associated with funeral procession are happening in 21st century where man claim to be more civilised and having all technological developments. I think instead of blaming the Govt, police etc., we have to blame ourselves only and the full-stop to this non-sense activities should be made by us.

It is the practice of certain communities - Hindus and converted Christians. The Govt. should ban at least firing of crackers during such processions.
