There is no use of crying over the spilt milk. Why a Country of 125 million population could not get even a single Gold in the international arena of sports ? The reasons are simple. Every field of activity in our Country is in the grip of
Corruption, Nepotism, Castism, language and religious segration and intervention of self serving NGOs and political activists.
Sports is highly competative field of activity. The greatest reward the participant expects is not money, but pride of place. Winning in sports needs proper selection and continuous training under good coach and practice. The selection of talent should start at village level and progress to wider field. Candidates should have care free life with assured basics for him /herand family looked after by the sports and Government bodies, and leave him to concentrate on the field of practice. They should have enough opportunities to visit international sports competitions.
Among the Indian talents who have won place of honour in the Rio Olympics 2016, I would consider the results of Dipa Karmakar as significant. She is the first Indian female gymnast ever to compete in the Olympics, and the first Indian gymnast to do so in 52 years. She attained 4th position in Women's Vault Gymnastics event of Rio Olympics 2016 with an overall score of 15.066.Dipa Karmakar is one of only five women in the world, who have successfully landed the Produnova, the most difficult vault currently performed in women's gymnastics. She also won a bronze medal at the Asian Gymnastics Championships and finished fifth at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, both firsts for her country. Though this 23 year old young lady failed to get a medal, she deserves National honour for her significant achievement.

I agree with your assessment of Dipa Karmarkar..She was rightly selected for the Khel ratna award along with Sakshi, Sindhu (Olympic medallists) & Jitu Rai (shooter)...In the population a small correction..You have to add a zero (It is 1250 million)

Thank you for pointing the error in recording the population. You are correct, it should be 1250 million, not as stated in my post. Having been trained in எண் சுவடி வாய்பாடு in elementary school, I am still confused in converting crores into millions.

hi sir,Dear Sri tbs,
You are correct, Romanians and East Europeans specialise in this event. Gymnastics brings out individual's capacity. Forty years ago in 1976 the 14 year old young Romanian girl Nadia Comeneci stunned the world by clearing perfect score of 10 in Montreal Olympics and got 3 gold medals in the events. Again she got 2 more gold medals in Moscow Olympics in 1980.
Dipa Karmarkar got the support of Go Sports academy, an independent endeavour to train athletes for international events.
It is a matter of regret Sports have not got the attention and support from Government or individual bodies in our Country. However the words of assurance from our Prime Minister gives hope of producing good athletes for future.
