Experts in phonetics pronunciation could explain it .....as in many cases, the pronunciation of words starting with "W" gives double emphasis over the pronunciation of "U ".

Is it not ending with 'w' like hew, mew, phew, how, mow, window, pillow and so on.......?

Interesting, where W is used in a word, W pronunciation is silent as in Wrinkle, or U as in mew, or V as in wing, or O as in pillow or Va as in Water..I have never seen a word with a pronunciation of Double U where W is used
It is the only word in English alphabet with more than one syllable...It has 3 syllables..
Another interesting fact that it is placed after v in the alphabet pecking order while ideally it should be after u,,,,u,w, v, x, y ,z and not u, v, w, x, y,z...Earlier it used to be denoted as uu
French & Spanish call it as Double V and not Double U

"V" is pronounced with the upper teeth touching the lower lip.

"W" is pronounced without the teeth or lips touching. There is this subtle difference and the usage is more like "U" than "V". Maybe.

Try pronouncing VINE and WINE. You will perceive the difference.
