China is the country with the most Internet users, and incidentally, it is also the country with the strictest Internet censorship policies. It even has its own the ‘Great Firewall’ that blocks several sites that we take for granted.

China’s users have their own little Internet, with separate search-engines, social-networks, etc. Many Internet companies are looking to tap into this lucrative market, but China’s Internet policies and oppressive regime prevent many from stepping into this market.

Even Google doesn’t have a substantial presence here after it refused to censor search-results, and now it is looking to comply with China’s demands to launch China’s own Play Store in 2016.

It would be an independent app-store with servers in China, so that data never reaches outside servers. This store would be separate from the main Play Store.

It would take a lot of time and effort to reclaim lost marketshare. What do you think? Can an independent Play Store succeed in China?
