The Centre on Tuesday said it had not appointed ethical hacker Ankit Fadia as brand ambassador of the government's ambitious 'Digital India' project.
"There has been no such move to appoint a brand ambassador," the government stated in a PIB release in response to the alleged appointment.
However, the government soon after issuing the clarification on alleged appointment, has removed it for reasons unknown. According to sources, another clarification would be made in the evening today.
The issue came to the fore after the 30-year-old Fadia on his facebook page posted that he was "humbled and honoured" the government had appointed him as the face of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new initiative to take fruits of digitisation to the masses.

In the post, Fadia has shown the certificate of recognition to support his claim. It had the department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) roping in Fadia as the brand man for a period of one year to propagate products and applications under 'Digital India'.
It was issued on 01.07.2015, and was signed by the secretary in the department of Electronics & IT Ram Sewak Sharma.
