Chennai: Tamilnadu Revenue Minister R B Udhayakumar today said the government has taken efforts on a warfooting to handle rains, since the North-East monsoon is expected to commence on October 25.

Speaking to reporters here after holding a review meeting with top officials, he said efforts are being made in full force to avoid complications like last time. The Minister spoke in detail about the precautions being taken ahead of the North-East monsoon.

"We have taken into account the number of places that got affected by the rains severely last year," he said. He further stated,

"Based on calculations, there have been 3,994 places that were affected by the floods and now prevention operations are being undertaken in those places."

"These places are divided into four broad categories and work in bracing them up is being done. Further, Diasater Management team has been formed and it will travel all around Tamilnadu and will keep a check on the water resources in the State and also will keep a check on drainage blockages."

He added that in 24 hours the State Disaster Management Committee, district and taluk PWDs will create a group and check up on the affected places along with police, fire station, local body committee members, Metrowater department and also the Electricity board.
