Dear Shri.Gopalan & all learned ones,

My sister born on 27/9/1959 at 2-15 AM at Kancheepuram(MOOLA STAR) wants to undergo eye surgery for cataract & hence fixed the same on 22/4/2013 before Agni Nakshatra starts.Suddenly the doctor who is to do the operation has to go out of station & returns only on the 6th MAY,2013.

I understand some life activities like Marriage, upanayanam,Grahaprevesam etc are prohibited during AGNI NAKSHATRA DAYS.

I may please be guided whether the eye surgery or for that matter any surgery is also prohibited during those days or any exceptions are available.

Seek your valuable guidance.

Kind regards,
M.R.Moorthi

Shri Moorthi,

You can post any topic under the General Discussions category.

Agni Nakshatram (AN) denotes the days during which sun transits the Nakshatra kritthikai. Astronomically this will be only 13 and a quarter days (so to say) but there are conventions of including some days before and after (may be abundant precaution!) and that is how the period gets stretched to 25 from 13 or 14.

I have not read or heard any taboo against surgery during AN. What is usually sought to be avoided is fire (agni), burning, items involving and using fire, etc. Hence, I consider that it will be OK to go ahead with the surgery unless the patient (your sister) herself has any reservations about it.

Dear Shri. Sangom,

My heartfelt thanks to your valuable guidance & I will advise my sister accordingly. She has no reservations but will act only as per elder's advice.
