Not having arms never stopped Jagwinder Singh from reaching for his dreams. The 23-year-old, one of India’s top paracyclists, is now aiming to compete in the Paralympics Rio 2016, slated for September.[h=2]In 2014, Singh had qualified for the Asian Para Games.[/h]

He did not participate because he didn’t have the money to travel to South Korea, where the games were held. But this time, he’s not going to let lack of finances get in the way. He is crowdfunding his way to South America.
He aims to bring home a gold medal. In a quote to Times of India, Singh said, “I will leave no stone unturned to win an Olympics Gold for my country.” He believes that with the right training, equipment and diet, he has a great chance at winning a gold and making his country proud.
It was in 2012 that this resident of Patran, Patiala, began to seriously work on preparing for cycling competitions. Apart from improving his physical fitness, he also started giving painting lessons to make some money so he could buy himself a new bicycle.
His lifetime of hard work and determination has won him many accolades so far. Singh has a State Gold Medal from winning the 25-kilometre Chandigarh State Cycling Championship in 2014. The same year, he also won a bronze medal at the International Cyclothon in Orissa. In another cyclothon by the Green Biker Association, Patiala, he finished 212 kilometres in 9 hours and 15 minutes. He cycles about 25 kilometres daily.
His parents weren’t too keen on him learning to ride at a young age. But he learnt anyway, sneaking out at night, practising, falling, and yet getting up and trying again. When the medals started pouring in, he knew he had proved a point. Apart from cycling, Singh says he uses his feet to cook, eat and even paint.

“I do not face any problem. Whenever I feel like doing some work, I see how another person is doing it and then figure out how can I do it my own way,” he says.
The paracyclist is a reminder to all of us about how we can defy all kinds of odds to achieve a dream. No wonder then, that his fans and friends call him ‘Super Singh’.
