I am 100% sure Chess originated from India.

Some claim that it was Surphanaka who invented chess to keep Ravana busy.

You know why I say Chess is Indian?

Becos as long as the King is alive the Queen can do whatever she likes..but once the King is Check Mated Dead..the game ends!

So the Queen can only do as she pleases as long she is a Sumangali!LOL

Its surely an Indian game!LOL

great logic-that once king is checkmated, the queen is not a sumangali so she loses her freedom to do what she likes -so chess is an indian game.lol

only renukaji can put forward such a thesis. lol

Extend the logic further. If the game had its origin in Europe the queen will continue her campaign after marrying one of the two knights with the Bishop's blessings. LOL.

USAians are slightly different, only slightly, the king does not have to marry to make someone queen and he dies when he is checkmated, immaterial of having a mate or not. USAians are particularly fond of that elephant becoming queen, but why only on reaching the opposite kings place!! interesting indeed! Be will be a be as long as be is with a be.

btw, this def: is a bit..

Consciousness is the quality or state of awareness, or, of being aware of an external object or something within oneself.

Dear Krish ji,

When I was young I had a chess game set made of wood which had painted faces on it.

The knight wore a hood over his head and I somehow found the knight more handsome than the King and I use to make up stories that the Queen ran away with the knight!

Then I also found that one King was handsome and his Queen was not beautiful..the other King was not handsome but his Queen was beautiful so I used to swap the Kings and Queens!LOL

I never really learnt to play chess as well as my brothers becos I was always making up such stories.

I never wanted to play the adult chess set becos it had no faces..so I never really learnt chess all that well.

Dear Renu,

I can imagine your childhood days because 'viLaiyum payir muLaiyilE theriyum'!!

You are right RR ji,

You have seen the fruit..so now you can imagine the tree!LOL

But truly speaking RR ji...you should have seen the chess set I had...the Knight was very good looking and the King was so plain!LOL

Dear Renu,

Actually that proverb literally means that the plant is known even while it sprouts.

Google search gave the English equivalent as:

'child is father of the man' and '
child is father to the man'.

Prov. People's personalities form when they are children;
A person will have the same qualities as an adult that he or she had as a child. :)

One can still continue and win the game without the queen, but definitely not without a ‘King’.

Queen is just one among the other pieces!

Power always leads to problems. The opponents always will attempt to attack the Queen more particularly bcos she has more powers!

In fact the game becomes more challenging and exciting only when the queen is lost.

It is a just a game with a powerful Queen protecting the mighty 'King'. :-)

Dear Renu,

Did the king have a beard and the knight clean shaven? :becky:

OMG! Yes...the knight was clean shaven and had really good features but the King was a bearded guy!LOL

But the other King had a french beard and looked handsome.

One Queen had sharp features and another Queen looked kind of "homely"!

Queens ,homely or otherwise are nice.

Every king should feel proud that their queens are protective of him and give their life for him .

Not many kings give up their life for queens , They only build monuments like Tajmahal.lol

Queen is powerful but has less value, bcos, the game can continue without her.

Whereas, though the King is powerless has more value, bcos the game ends when he is checkmated.

What is important is the value and not power.

Tamil Nadu has just seen a powerful uncrowned queen convicted.

In Delhi, a powerful uncrowned queen was dethroned.

One should learn lessons from game/history.

The mAmA who has lost his spouse struggles mentally more than a mAmis who has lost her spouse.

P J Sir agrees with this view. So, 'Shakthi illaiyEl Sivam illai'! :thumb:

When a Queen dies the King builds a Taj Mahal.

When a lover leaves..the male lover becomes a Devadas and drinks himself to death.

When a King dies..no Queen builds anything!

When a lover leaves..the female lover marries someone else.

Conclusion: Females are practical..Males are emotional.

Males are also practical like when the king creates a new queen with a promoted pawn. They together some time go ahead to win the game and "live happily thereafter".

Come on Renu! Not all queens find new mates. Have you not read Ramayan and Mahabharat?

The queens chose to live a simple life in the palace itself.

If Dasaratha simply ignored the request of Queen Kaikeyi, Ramayana would have never happened.

Conclusion: Kings always honour their commitments. They are not self-centred.

King always thinks he is in-charge and has no idea what Queen does when he is not around!

King shows his prowess too openly.

Queen is discreet..only her Mirror Mirror On the Wall knows what she is capable of.

If only King knew what Queen really is he would "live happily NEVER after"LOL

Dear RR ji,

I was reading adventures of King Vikramaditya where he find out his Queen has been having some liaison with his minister!LOL

So there are some Queens who treat their knights and pawns well.

Its a game..remember?
