Hi,
Got some doubts on how to calculate anniversary for the below context.

1. birth date.
2. marriage date. - suppose one gets married during chitra poornima, which date should one take into account.
a. tamil month and day.
b. poornima on the chithirai month.
c. or the star on the month of chithirai during which the marriage takes place.
3. Death anniversary: which should one choose?
a. tamil month and day?
b. the star on which the person died.
c. or suppose one dies in aadi month kirthigai or during aadi month amavasya, should this be taken into consideration?

thanks in advance.

regards
bharat

Shri Bharat,

1. We go by Tamil month and nakshatra; if the same nakshatra comes twice within the same month, the custom varies with region/groups - some take the first occurrence while some (that includes us) go by the second occurrence.

2. Marriage anniversary is not observed as per our tradition. Hence you may take any day - including the English Calender date and month - if some people want to celebrate their wedding anniversaries in a vaideeki style. But it is our usual custom to observe pitrukarmas alone on the basis of tithi and paksha; so option 2-b is less satisfactory because it will mean we are equating the function to a death anniversary, imo. May be, divorce anniversary is celebrated, in future, on the basis of Tamil month, Paksha and tithi ;)

3. Tamil month, Paksha (krishna or shukla paksha in which death occurred) and tithi.
