Nice story.

There are always people who fear risk taking and frighten others who would like to take risk.

They fear others doing well taking risks.

It is a mindset.

Those who are at the bottom of the finance pyramid and nothing much to lose would like to stay there .

Nothing can be done about them except ignoring them

Yes stock market for the uninitiated is a moron! If you go by plain greed you will not succeed! It requires intelligent buying and selling!

Brahmins are known for their intelligence.

But they are averse to risk takng.

It is drilled into them that other than banks or Post office everything else is risky.

All upstarts like 3 bansals of flipkart and a bansal with a partner in snapdeal have made crores in a few years , They are in thirties.

I feel ashamed that with all the degrees and experience ,I am counting small cash and boasting of my prowess to collect a few bucks in share market.

It is the start up season . One can start an online portal . There are people waiting to give money to multiply. Is anyone prepared to risk?

It is an eye opener for few with greed to make more money

In Tamil Nadu thousands of senior citizens were cheated under various attractive schemes like Multi level marketing, EMU Scheme, Chit Funds, F.D promising attractive interest rate, etc etc

Only those who have fair knowledge can try this and hence I am against preaching seniors on the advantages of Investment which is an undoubtedly 'risky factor'.

I have a friend and whenever I used to meet him in functions , celebrations he never failed to give a lengthy lecture on Stock Market, proudly raise up his collar and used list out the companies in which he had invested recently.

I used to give a patient hearing though it is not my cup of tea. This friend who is a bank official availed golden handshake and retired with good terminal benefits. He was also of the opinion that playing Share Market was a great sport then!

But nowadays whenever we meet, he never discusses anything about stock market and the usual proud feeling and enthu is missing in him and on enquiry I learnt that this friend has miserably lost lot of money and got his fingers burnt.

Some don’t go by bear and bull run.

They do have sufficient knowledge about high inflation-high growth of Indian economy.

They prove they are good fund managers and park their funds safely with guaranteed return and thus ensure good financial health in their rainy days.

Few who have passion to have their money grow rapidly are free to take risk, deal with bulls and bears and make lot of money and thus enrich their life in short time.

Why this pullambbal or Oppari on others who don't want to take risk atleast after attaining the status of Senior citizen and opt for a happy and peaceful living??

"Is anyone prepared to risk?" — Nobody, especially senior citizens like myself, will be prepared to risk, and that too, knowingly. My son who is very active in the stock market in his country of stay, has cautioned me not to venture into the Indian Stock market. Another friend who was very close to me till he started his share market trading (after that he became too engrossed with that only) lost most of his retirement benefits, and since his was a non-pensionable job, he has now become slightly abnormal and extremely recluse-like. Yet another close friend of mine who has been very fortunate and had many more promotions and much more earnings due to favourable circumstances in life, met me after a gap of about 35 years some time ago, and he was talking all the time about the glories of the share market, the need to take "risks" and so on and so forth that your posts remind me of that friend very much. After a long lecture from him, I asked him to tell me honestly, on the basis of our very close friendship, what were his total losses and total gains all through the several years of his share market operations. This he declined saying he did not know all the details. Ultimately, it transpired that only the siginificant gains are remembered and bandied about, but the losses are conveniently forgotten!

I then told him about a common friend we had in Bombay who used to invest, by way of deposit, his moneys with one stock broker on the condition that he would get 24% returns just like a bank FD; no risks! The broker used the money and made fortunes probably and he was kind enough to attract deposits even @24% p.a.

The Indian stock market is driven by FIIs mainly. It is they who play "bulls & bears" and ordinary people, like the second friend of mine referred to above, sometimes ruin themselves completely, trying to 'play' the stock market along with those FIIs; a few may make a windfall here and there but that is that — here and there! Why ask the contented tabra senior citizens to come catching snakes á la S. Ve. Sekhar's story?

We all talk as if we will end up in the dustbin by intelligent investing.

One loses and learns also in the process. A loss is a better teacher on what not to do .

There is no wisdom in shutting ones eyes to oppurtunities in india.

They are immense .

The dismantling of controls is unleashing the spirits of the young and make them getting into new ventures.

They are getting backed by venture capitalists if any new idea catches their eyes.

Our central govt is pushing for banks to fund start up from backward community youth and women.

In fact housewives or those who are prepared to work from home can put to test their ideas . the seed money is just norukku theeni .

They need not use their hands ,only exercise their brains a bit. There are people who can be engaged to do edupidi and manual.

It can be good fun to do it.

Money making alone is not the objective. It is the satisfaction of doing something worthwhile and feeling empowered.

There is no wisdom in going for financial ventures even at rainy days of one's life.

Peace is precious and more important.

There is time and age to get into challenges and ventures.

One has to exercise his discretion and decide.

One needs to take a break and try to enjoy the life.

We all already had an hectic life with full and care and no time to relax.

I only remember the following poem of W.H. Davies - 'Leisure' which serves as a 'speed breaker'.

W.H. Davies poem ‘Leisure’

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare

IMHO there is time for everything.

leisure is enjoyable only after work.

If there is only leisure ,one feels useless and loses respect for self.

Whenever anyone criticizes such people ,they feel challenged ,insulted and get a feeling of self pity.

Most senior people fall into this trap.

Most feel young do not care for them nor respect them when they cease to be financial cash cows.

Even simple comments feel derogatory and most start avoiding all becoming recluses turning to religion and philosophy.

Nothing much has happened due to aging. A little less physical strength . But mental faculties are intact

so why play the helpless victim card unnecessarily and not perform in various spheres taking everything as a new challenge.

This is true . Many boast about only their gains but never talk about their losses .

In Cho's Enge Brahmnan TV serial this was highlighted . An aging Brahmin Priest in Order to enhance his wealth and also to keep lot of deposits in his wive's name disposes of one of his old property in his native place and hands over the entire money to a stock broker on the recommednation of his friend who at that time made a big killing in stock market and later when the share market crashes this TB Priest goes to his friend and finds him equally depressed and his friend philosophically says "In Share market you share both the profits as well as loss ".

I am neither for / against stock market but would like to point out that people with superifical knowledge enter stock market and take all their success in a bull run to be do their so called own expertise only to find them humbled when the market is caught in a bear grip .

As you are dabbling in stock markets, have you come across this..?

http://www.moneylife.in/article/blowing-the-whistle-on-manipulation-in-nse/42337.html

What are your views on this large scale manipulation by HFT traders in NSE for the 4 year period?

As far my knowledge is concerned, the persons who make profit every day in on-line trading are brokers(without involvement in trading).
