I need 8 hours of sleep..Come what may..If I do not sleep properly or if there is some disturbance during sleeping, the next day is a waste as I am unable to do any productive work

As soon as I came out from my Engg, I joined manufacturing in Chennai where I had to work in shifts..From Day shift to night shift to mid night shift, it was really taxing..My biological clock went for a six..

When I moved to another Industry in the North, it was in General shift I really enjoyed it

Once I went to Egypt, I had a harrowing time attending meetings at 6 AM Cairo to suit Singapore, 10 AM Cairo to suit India and again go for mid night meetings for some client in US..It was a harrowing experience!

Even today, I cherish my sleep at home!!

Home!! Sweet Home!!

Go to bed or your brain will shrink

September 12, 2014 15:52 IST

The next time you skip your sleep, remember you're doing great disservice to the most important part of your body.

Read on to find out how lack of sleep can have a disastrous effect on your brain.
A new study has revealed that shortage of sleep can rapidly reduce the size of people's brains.

Sleep has been proposed to be "the brain’s housekeeper", serving to repair and restore the brain.

Researchers found that 35 per cent of the people in the study met the criteria for poor sleep quality, scoring an average of 8.5 out of 21 points on the sleep assessment.

The assessment looked at how long people slept, how long it took them to fall asleep at night, use of sleeping medications, and other factors.

The study established that sleep difficulties were linked with a more rapid decline in brain volume over the course of the study in widespread brain regions, including within frontal, temporal and parietal areas.

The results were more pronounced in people over 60 years old.

The study is published in the online issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

I need just 6 hours of sleep..more than that I feel as if I overslept!

I guess I got used to being even 48 hours without sleep when I used to work in the government hospitals.

But my sleep is kind of interesting..it has very weird dreams!LOL

Last night I dreamt I was being chased by some man and I ended up stabbing him right thru his heart!LOL

Last week I dreamt I was being chased by 2 demon looking guys who came out from a cremation grounds..then in my dream I fought back with them and they ran away.

God knows what I will dream tonight!

I too have worked for 36 hours without sleep some 25 years back when I was a young & energetic lad!

Not sure whether I can work like that now!

Are dreams a manifestation of fear or worries??

I hardly get dreams! So should I feel happy??

God knows what dreams are..but I like my dreams..its so real like some movie.

I have mastered the art of controlling dreams where one can even change the plot midway the dream..the mind is semi awake while this happens..you can actually maintain the dream state while being aware of what else is going on in the room.

This is called Lucid dream.

At first a dream starts of in a semi awake state and the mind knows that you are semi awake..then after a while one learns to even put the dream in pause and plan the ending.

Its a interesting state to explore...it came to me naturally as I aged.

I enjoy my sleep if it is not disturbed for six hours. :)

Now that I am taking care of my mom, I have to wake up at least twice during my sleep!

You are doing great injustice to your friends..the 'GHOSTS'.. You are not supposed to look beyond them even in dreams..!!

........ I have not dreamt of any forum member so far. I wonder why?
Dear Renu,

When I CAN identify a few of your dream characters as our dear forum members,

why are you unable to spot the members' avtArs in your dreams? :spy:

renuka ji...they might have been your ex-patients....

that I had dreamt before..even when I did not know they were dead.
Once when I was a intern in India one of the patients in the ward was a lady from Goa who was dying from liver failure.

She was not actually my patient but she was in the next bed to the patient I was in charge.

My friend used to be the doctor in charge of her.

My friend who was a Christian used to read the bible to her when she was free.

In the mornings these lady used to tell me how she was badly ill treated by her inlaws becos she could not conceive and she began drinking becos of depression.

So I told her since she was terminal..not to think of her in laws and focus on being happy.

I told her dont let your last thoughts be ruled by our inlaws..Screw them!

that were the exact words I used.

But my Christian friend was speaking to her saying "Forgive your in laws..show love to them"

I told the Goa lady.."love does not work for those who do not deserve it..think your happiness now..at least you are away from them now..just dont think of your in laws"

Then the following week I went for a holiday to Blore and in the hotel room I had a dream that I saw this Goa lady and she was looking radiant and beautiful and she said that she came to tell me thank you and good bye.

When I went back to my college..I went to the ward and I found out that she had died that night when I had the dream.

I told this to my Christian friend and my friend got real mad..she said "OMG I gave her good advise..I read to her the Bible daily..asking her to forgive her in laws and yet she choose to come in your dream and thank you instead of me"

Ha Ha ha!

My poor Christian friend..she was upset that her Bible did not work!LOL
