According to Quartz.com, India is far and away the world’s biggest guzzler, owing in part to its large population. Roughly half of the world’s whiskey is drunk by the sub-continent. Most of it is made by UB India, the world’s largest whiskey company by volume.

whiskey is only the minor component of hard drinks consumed in india. bulk of it is country liquor.

this is what keeps our poor going and makes them cope with living hardships.

if these are taken away from indians there will be nothing to look forward for more than half the

population. what most do not realise is that we are a nation who look pious and drink to our satisfaction.lol

50%?

Wonder what Jaykay would have to say about this?

One does not have to go to the USA to have a Bottle Shottle Daru Sharu Party!

Let's get "Spiritually" High!LOL

50% of the whiskey that is legal.
Like krisji said other liquor, rum, wine, beer there is lot more Daru party in India.
They are shocked in India that my family does not bring or drink alcohol. In every party they have drinks and to an extent they tend to overdrink.

1. quartz.com is the website of the authorized GE dealer of clear fused quartz tubes and rods. No connection with whiskey or any other booze unless some enterprising pub serves the drink in quartz glass/tumbler.

2. Digital indian edition of quartz business magazine is available at qz.com from june 14.

3. In google search, the, our forum tops the list for the search on 'India drink about 50% of the world's whiskey'. I could not find any reference to any other report.

I think this conclusion is extrapolated from an obtuse news clip: '"
In 2011 UB Group became the second largest spirits producer globally... ...99% of UB’s spirit sales come from India." UB manufactures all spirits - beer, whiskey, rum, vodka, gin.

The claim that india drinks about 50% of the world whisky is highly suspect and is more of reporter's and poster's exuberance.

Delhi election haul

5000 bottles of johnny walker black label whiskey have bees seized from the office of an AAP candidate in delhi. Estimated value of the catch is 5000*3000, rs. 1.5 crore.

MSM may not report or post pictures!

A quick gander at global whiskey consumption helps show where the promise lies. India is far and away the world’s biggest guzzler, owing in part to its large population. Roughly half of the world’s whiskey is drunk by the sub-continent, according to Euromonitor. Most of it is made by UB India, the world’s largest whiskey company by volume.

Renuka Ji - I find it hard to believe, given that in the western countries, drinking is normal, consumed daily in their homes, etc.. May be if consider all drinks incl. Whiskey, the nos. will paint a different picture !!

Tyranny of numbers. If per capita consumption is considered India is nowhere. The liquor will not be sufficient even for prokshanam.

Soon in terms of absolute numbers or quantity, India will overtake the west and the east. For example, Suzuki has sold more cars in India than their global sale. Total production and consumption of food grain, milk, white goods, will be highest in India. The market is huge and will take long to saturate.
So drinks consumption is high, but majority don't drink. Intent of the post here is to portray Indians as decadent drinkers.

If the person reading any post has his mind in gutter, every post will stink. Who said drinking alcohol is bad? I do not drink, but why I should judge others.
It is a statistics, just wheat consumption, or coffee consumption. You give the motive because you are judgemental know all fool.

First you claimed my numbers were bogus, then you blame me for some ethical reason you drum up. You can not handle the truth. You have to be brave person to handle truth. You have been living in this bubble of untruth and throw firebombs, then hide behind. You are ............

True nature reveals itself. Sceptic tank has to burst when cracks are tinkered. That is life. One has to face it.

So do the cops get to drink it now?

I remember once out here I went to a Pakistani shop to look at some furniture..I was looking for some flower stand.

But to my surprise the Pakistani sales man showed my husband and I a mini bar cabinet and he said "this is very popular..you can store alcohol in it"

My husband told him "We do not drink"

Then the Pakistani guy said "Ok..in that case I will show you some carpets that you can use for the up coming Eid"

I was thinking ...What the hell! He assumed that were we Muslims just becos we said we do not drink..he never thought there could be a Hindu who does not drink.

My husband whispered to me "I think he thinks we are Muslims"

I told my husband "Its OK..I will call him Bhaiya now and he will give me a discount"

Then I addressed the Pakistani as Bhaiya and he said he gives discounts to Muslims!LOL

Poor guy he had no idea I was Hindu!LOL

Anyway I got a discount!

But it was not that nice a feeling to know that others think Hindus consume alcohol and take it for granted that all Hindus drink.

though shariat prohibits drinking,in liberal islamic states[there are some ] many drink.

even in pakistan , illicit brew is drunk in plenty.

but drug addiction is more in these neighbouring countries.

our punjab youth are falling increasingly to drug addiction . these are smuggled across the border.
