Manobi Bandopadhyay became the first person from the transgender community to head an educational institution.

Prof. Bandopadhyay will take over as Principal of Krishnagar Women's College in Nadia district of West Bengal on June 9.

Prof. Bandopadhyay is currently an Associate Professor of Bengali at Vivekananda Satavarshiki in Paschim Medinipur District.

Born Somnath Bandopadhyay in Naihati in North 24 Parganas district, Prof. Bandopadhyay underwent a sex-change surgery in 2003.
