recently a friend of mine after visiting the art galery came out with a querry about INNER VOICE when one of the programme manager said "there is an inner voice, a good voice and a bad voice".
of late even lakshmanan the great cricketer listened to his inner voice and retired from first class cricket.
is this a new epidemic or are they hallucinating??

The main difference between the inner voice and hallucination is this.

The inner voice is our conscience which says
whether what we do is right or wrong. :decision:

Hallucination on the other hand bewitches us and

makes us do the bad things without feeling guilty. :heh:

Most of the serial killers hallucinate and daydream
and even rehearse in their minds their course of action. :couch2:

[h=1]Why do we day dream?[/h]
A day dream is a visual fantasy experienced by us, while we are wide awake. Usually it is based on pleasant and happy thoughts, hopes and ambitions, plans for the future or memories of the past. A series of thoughts transport us from the present to a day dream. We sit staring into a distance with blank eyes while the mind is absorbed in the day dream.

Surveys have proved that even ordinary men and women (who are down to earth and practical) spend a large part of their waking hours in some sort of a fantasy, revere or day dream. They spend 11% or more of their waking hours in day dreaming.

Even persons who are engaged in important tasks, which demand all their attention, are found to indulge in day dreams. These are the moments they stop paying attention to what they do and enter an inner theater of imagination, for the fulfillment of a wish. The work may go on mechanically due to constant practice but the mind is else where.

Sustained fantasies are clearer than dream since we are wide awake. They are longer, more coherent, more colorful and more accurate. All fantasies seem to have a healing and creative power. It may be a way of coping with our deep seated fears and anxieties.

Day dreaming might be considered by some skeptics as a waste of time or as a past time of the lazy people. But creative people such as novelists, film makers and composers get brilliant ideas when they day dream.

Research scientists, mathematicians, and physicists develop new concepts and find new solutions to old problems when they day dream. When a person day dreams, his normal inhibitions are by-passed.

For hard core criminals, this provides a mental theater to plan and rehearse a crime, before they actually commit it. The evidences lay in the horror filled biographies of the infamous serial killers. They claim to have had frequently recurring violent fantasies-before actually turning to murder.

Day dreaming is a rare boon indeed! We should know how to make the best of that boon for creation and not for destruction.

[h=1]Music and Colors![/h]
In a study among a group of college students it was found that at least 15% of them imagined colorful images which made the music more enjoyable. The idea that there is a link between music and the color is a very old one.

The interlinking of senses is named as “Synaesthesia”. It is most common in the form of “color-hearing”, the involuntary perception of color by a person listening to music. It varies from person to person and is difficult to be measured or standardized.

Synaesthesia has been reported and supported by many scholars. Sir Isaac Newton believed that each of the seven notes in the musical scale corresponded to each of the seven colors in the spectrum. Whenever he saw a color, he could hear the note associated with it.

Newton’s Music and Color Theory states that the interval tone between D and E corresponded to Red, the minor 3rd to Orange, 4th to Yellow, 5th to Green, major 6th to Blue, minor 7th to Indigo and the octave to Violet.

Synaesthesia had wide appeal to artists and writers, as a source of metaphors. Famous composers have based their musical compositions on the beautiful art work of famous painters. Conversely, famous painters have derived inspiration from the musical compositions or the abstract idea of music.

To the neurologist, Synaesthesia remains an inexplicable and mysterious phenomenon. It is known that the information coming from the different senses are processed in different parts of the brain. The person who experiences Synaesthesia may have some kind of connections between these areas.

Drug induced “fusion and confusion of senses” may indicate that we all have such connections but under normal conditions they remain suppressed or inhibited.

The International Synaesthesia Association has its head quarters in U.K.

A psychoactive drug is a chemical that acts on the central nervous system and alters the brain function. The person’s perception, mood and behavior are temporarily changed. Fusion of senses, increased alertness and euphoria created by the drug make a person sink deeper and deeper into drug abuse.

Drugs which produce hallucinations change the way in which a person sees his inner and outer worlds. Sounds may be altered, color may be intensified and time comes to a grinding halt. The drug user becomes disoriented, panicky and is often dangerous to the people around him.

Will give a simple example of the difference between Inner Voice and Fantasy.

I am leaving the word Hallucination out cos Hallucination is a complex medical condition either brought upon by brain/psychiatric disorders or caused by a a hallucinogen eg drugs etc.

When a guy is in love with some girl..Inner Voice and Fantasy rules his mind.

Fantasy: Today I am going to drive pass her in my new bike in a speed devil manner.(guy rides his bike super fast)

Inner Voice: Hey isn't that dangerous??

Fantasy : No dude!..girls like sleek guys who are dare devils. ("Kadhal Pissasu" song starts playing in background and guy starts to fantasize that he is Madhavan riding a bike with Meera Jasmine)

Inner Voice: Yes..provided they are alive..no girl likes a dead dude..so slow down and don't ride fast.

Fantasy: Guys sees the girl and rides real fast.He thinks in his mind the girl will admire him.

Inner Voice: Watch out there is a speed breaker in front of you!

Guy falls of the bike and falls on to the ground..thank God he was wearing his helmet and survives the fall.
Girl does not come to his side but gets into a car driven by another guy!

Fantasy: So much for all the speed and she goes with another guy! Some Pathos song starts playing in the background.

Inner Voice: Oops I forgot to tell you..girls prefer guys with fast cars!

a small change, a neurologist is a clinician, he will probably think color and music it is somewhere in the Right parietal lobe.

scientist of the brain circuits have been saying and will continue to say for another trillion years that there are complex circuits, there are unexplored paths in the brain, unexplored chemical in the brain, etc.

i liked the diagram so i could grasp synaesthesia in 4.08 seconds

Inner Voice -- in means of spiritual line is so huge topic of more information, very useful & powerful .Actually people who can focus with clear mind & thoughts ,along with ALMIGHTY will ,can acquire this art / talent. I wish people can share their experiences, known incidents which can be more interesting.( Hope sandhyav does not find it odd. / out of topic.)
