I have found it very strange that many hindus don't eat pyaaz(onion) and garlic(poondu). I knew that jains don't eat fruits and vegetables which are in root form e.g. carrot, onion and potato. I do think that's a bit too extreme.

Actually during my interaction with a north Indian brahmin who didn't eat onion and poondu he said that they make you make more emotional.

In fact this guy used to run dharamshala and whenever I used to come to his room to chat after eating sambaar and idli, he used to say this room is full of onion smell.

Then when I said I have eaten sambaar, he would say there you go, that onion sambaar.

ha ha ha.
