IPL 8 season is in progress.

Since it commences immediately after the World Cup, which Australia won convincingly against New Zeland, one can see the interest shown in IPL 8 is rather less, compared to earlier years.

While Chennai Super Kings won both the matches so far, the first match against Delhi Daredevils was a close encounter and the second match against Sunrisers was won comfortably.

Rajasthan Royals won all the three matches played so far.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has a brand value of $86 million – according to American Appraisal, a global valuation firm.
KKR, which is jointly owned by Shah Rukh Khan, Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta, ranks number one in brand value among the eight cricket teams that play in the league. It notches a huge leap from last year’s brand value of $69 million – spurred primarily by its on-field performance, promotional activities, merchandising and its huge social media presence.

“We included a number of factors while valuing the brands,” says Kapil Bellubi, vice president of American Appraisal in India. “We looked at the managements, the level of transparency and governance and even the extent of fan engagement though social media.”

Chennai Super Kings, which topped the brand value charts last year, has slipped to the number three position dragged down by controversies relating to spot-fixing and the indictment of an official. However, Chennai leads the pack when it comes to fan engagement through social media. It has 11.8 million Twitter and Facebook followers. KKR was ranked number 2 with regard to social media. It has 11.7 million Twitter and Facebook followers combined. Delhi Daredevils was at the bottom of the social media pile with 2.6 million social media followers.
